  • Front indicator not working

Over the weekend I noticed that the offside front indicator wasn't working. Checked the bulb and looked OK. Swapped over with the nsf bulb and still nothing. Tried both in the nsf and they work. So I tried swapping the holder. Still nothing from the os. The metal tabs look fine - in place, not corroded.

Does this mean I need a new headlight? Sidelight, dipped and full beam work fine.

It might be a connection in the socket that's gone, or even the switch on the indicator stalk. Does the arrow still light up on the dash when indicating (RE the latter)?

I'd get a garage to check across the wiring and connectors to see where the circuit is broken, unless you have a multimeter and can try it yourself.

Get a multimeter if you don't have. Worthwhile to have one for the rest of your life.

Yeah, the side repeater and rear indicator still work, and the arrow flashes at double time, which is the normal warning that a bulb is out. The osf doesn't work on hazards or locking/unlocking either.

I'll try and dig out my multimeter. Haven't needed it for a while and it's probably buried in the shed.

This really starting to bug me now! I've checked with a multimeter, and with the hazards on but both indicator bulbs out, the voltage matches on both sides. If I then put the bulbs back in, the ns works, but the os doesn't. I've got continuity on the bulbs and holders so they're OK. Both bulbs work fine in the ns but neither in the os.

Where do I find the flasher relay? Is it possible that it's failed on the osf circuit? Is the front indicator on a separate fuse? Or am I going to have to go down the replacement headlight route?

Get it to a garage and let them have a play. They'll likely be able to diagnose and repair cheaper than or equal to a new headlight if it's a wiring fault. Also if it's something unrelated to the headlight itself, it'll be a waste to buy a new one.

              Found the problem!

I gave up trying to work the problem out myself, so asked an auto electrician who does some jobs for us at work. He had a quick look, and found that one of the plugs in the engine fuse box had suffered water ingress and the pins had corroded and some have even snapped.

I've ordered a new fuse box from Citroen which should be here tomorrow. Funny thing is, now everything has been plugged back in, the indicator is working again!

Very good news. Had some waterdamage myself on mine. Had to replace the windows controls driver side and just bought a new subwoofer... Also the BSM might have had some water in it to. But that was replaced because of a bad starter relay...

So this was the cause, although not sure how the water got in. Easy enough to swap over, but took a bit longer to remove broken pins from the plug.

That is interesting, how did water get into that connector in the first place. Did you check the cable side connector for corrosion? Not sure if spraying some contact cleaner would be OK in this case...
