  • Clunk noise when releasing brake

Hi all, new to the forum here and it's my first car as well.

I have bought a 12 plate automatic about a month ago.

What bothers me is that I'm not sure whether this is a normal sound or not. When I release the brakes I hear and feel in the pedal a clunk noise.

Happens only at low speeds or when pressing fully before releasing the brake (e.g. on a slope)

Had a local mechanic listen to the sound and he said most automatics do it,
but I'm not convinced as I've driven my father's automatics before and don't remember such sounds

    Any advice?

Sounds like a sticking brake pad. Is it worse after rain? I have found that in damp conditions the discs rust up and this can cause the pads to stick. Only sure way of checking is to jack the car up and with the hand brake off spin the wheel. You will soon see if the brakes are binding.

Hi David, thanks for your reply. No, not particularly worse in damp weather, seems to make no difference.

The front brake pads were replaced first thing after I bought the car and had the fluid changed.
