If the laws were upheld a bit better there'd be none of those ridiculous 10k HIDS in reflectors, and folks who wanted to retrofit would have to do it properly, ie grafting a specfic HID projector (D2 or D2S) into their headlight.
Bunging Japanese itchy fanny toy company H1, H7 and H4 etc HID kits off of eBay looks gash imo.
I had heard that there is soon to be laws in the MOT test that will fail a car in an MOT test that doesn't have standard working equipment, lights being one of them, any one know about this from the trade?
I couldn't fix yer brakes so I made your horn louder!
I've heard the same, if you have retrofitted HID's and they (or the car) do not have self levelling, headlamp washers and housed in a proper HID lamp housing they will fail it. I've also heard about aftermarket exhausts being targetted too.
The only thing thing from VOSA I've found today is a newsletter from last year where they mentioned a few things that might be changed in the MOT, such as HIDs and ECU chipping/remaps.
I'm fairly sure HIDs without self-levelers and washers are already illegal and a fail. Although that doesn't appear to stop people driving around with badly adjusted headlights that are too bright.
On a related note, I drove into work through fog today, real stuff where you can only see about 100ft, and a lot of people didn't put lights on. I wonder if they're the same people who as soon as its a bit dark, put every light they've go on!
Rant over.
