    glad i saw this thread!

Had my car since the summer, have done 15k miles and this has just happened for the first time. From 5th gear the lever needs pulled back as normal, a slight push forward again and then left and back down before it will return to 4th. Not handy. Seems the lock that stops it from pulling from 5th straight down to reverse has become misplaced. I have an old high mileage Fiesta which has a similar sticky cable feel but still moves through the gears properly. All the other gear lever movements are normal, just getting out of 5th is troublesome. Dealer visit tomorrow may help..

Ooops, I completely forgot to update this thread! The dealer said there was nothing wrong with it, even sat in 2 different ds3's one with 32k on the clock and one with 5 miles on the clock... both did it... Seems it's just a pisch design.

          update

So, decided it is just an odd design. As mentioned earlier in these posts, if you only bring the lever straight back and take care not to pull to the right, it works every time. If you pull right though it baulks as if to stop it going into reverse but takes some fiddling to get it unstuck. Distracting when/if it happens. On another note altogether this model service interval is now 16k miles as opposed to previous model's 12500 miles which my first enquiry to the dealer led me to believe...money saved.
