  • Engine revs

Has anyone noticed, or maybe it's just my car and it has a problem. That when reverse gear is selected car won't rev very well or much past 3,000 rpm . But as soon as in neutral , or any other gear revs normal?

Lol I was listening to a rattle that's started when engine cold. Think it's a heat shield. I had just reversed into garage but noticed lack of revs when I tried to provoke rattle. Thought had gone into limp mode or something. But as soon as I moved from reverse or put into another gear , car revving normal until back to reverse, then poor revs again. I'm just wondering if normal or part of it's French makeup.

Don't See Why You'd Need To Rev Over 3000 Revs ? lol

Reverse doesnt need that many revs :L, ride the clutch , if you rev when you first start your car only goes to four thousands its to protect the engine gearbox an all that

              We came,
              We saw,
              We stood around,
              We went home.

Wouldn't normally rev so hard but was listening to exhaust rattling and noticed . Thanks for replies, even the funny ones.makes sense there as a protection.

                            Engine revs

It's a characteristic of the car. Mine won't rev past 2750 in reverse. Besides, why would you need to do so anyway!! It's one of the first things I noticed about the car, don't know what that says about my driving lol.

Sorry to dig up an old thread but I have a problem that's similar to this, saves starting a new thread.
I was driving home the other night in 3rd gear, about 25mph and when I accelerated the car shuddered and slowed down. I changed down to 2nd and it seemed OK. I was near home so didnt get chance to see it do it again. I had to go out again that night so turned the engine on and tried revving it, and it wouldn't go over 2500 revs.
I rang the garage to get it booked in and they couldn't see it for a few days (today) so I thought I would go back out and try it again, and this time it revved all the way up to the red line, so I thought it was a temporary blip. Tried one more time for good measure and again it only went up to 2500 revs.
I drove it over to the garage this morning and while driving it seemed fine. The bloke at the garage said its meant to stop at 2500 revs while idling. Still doesn't explain the shuddering and slowing down the other day though.
Just waiting for them to ring me, but does everyone elses do that when idling?
