  • Spare Key Issues and more

So basically my dealer is starting to wind me up a treat, but maybe they're right and I need to check that before I flip.

I got my car on the 25th May, no spare key as that was "missing". I was told they'd order me one, and many phone calls to push this later and finally two weeks ago I was told one had arrived. I took the car in last Thursday to get it programmed. At the same time I had a few other things done but we'll come back to that. When I went to collect I had a bog standard key given to me, no remote buttons, and I was like that ain't right. At home I have the spare cover for the remote fob which I presumed it for the spare key I'm meant to have, with the remote buttons. I made my point there and then and was told I'd get a phone call back. Did I f***, I waited until yesterday to phone them, no one was around, was told I'd get a phone call back, well I'm still waiting. In fact out of say 10 times I'm told they'll phone back, maybe once or twice they actually have.

So my main question is, what spare keys were you guys given, as I'm sure if I was given a spare cover that it should be the remote fob.

Secondly, when I handed the car over I said the drivers chair squeaks a bit in the bottom left corner (quite noticeable when going over bumps), and the dash rattles a tad to. They went for a drive with me in it, witnessed it and said they'd sort it. Well they haven't sorted it and I'm sure the dash rattle is now worse. That I can just about live with, the squeak I can't. Has anyone had similar issues with the chair, does it just need lubricating and if so where? If I can sort it myself that would be great. If anyone knows how to get the top of the dashboard off to I'll sort that out myself to but no rush there.

My spare key was just 'a key' no buttons etc.

It is a spare, not a replacement. So I'm guessing you use the 'spare' whilst your actual main key fob is replaced if you lose it.

You only get a remote spare when you have a DSport version, otherwise you will receive a blank spare key.

The reason for the two keys on a DSport is because the car is fitted with an Alarm.

Cool, well I have the DSport so I've just rephoned them and this time they were a bit more helpful. A remote key is now being ordered for me I guess the "just key" will only be useful for starting the car if unlocked then as the alarm will go off otherwise.

Just need the damn squeak solved now. Cheers for replies guys, means I knew what I was saying when I phoned!

In regards to the squeak, try moving the position of the belt buckler a little bit, works in our DS3!

Same here - and a (very careful) squirt of WD40 on the seat belt mounting bolt seems to cure it for a while, although it's a bit awkward to get at.

Perhaps Bigfeet76 or John Nicol could enlighten us, but I think you'll find it's £ pinching & probably well into 2 digits. If it was an option at X amount of £'s just to be able to remotely open & lock the doors when the battery went flat or you lost your main key would you have paid it or would you think I don't really need that I'll save myself some money?

A previous car of mine a Toyota MR2 Roadster came with 3 keys. Two were fully functioning the third would unlock everything except the glove box, this was called the service or mechanics key can't remember the exact name & was supposed to be the key you handed over when the car was in for a service or other work. Was this Toyota going that extra mile or a statement of how trustworthy their service staff are!!!

This is normally called the Valet key. The idea being that when you use valet parking the kid driving the car can't access the glove box (and on my Lexus the boot). Not too much valet parking in my part of Yorkshire though LOL.

Is this a Toyota/Posh Toyota (Lexus) thing as it's the only car I've had with such a key. Previously owned an Escort RSTurbo, Golf VR6 & A3 1.8T Sport before the MR2 & C2 VTS & current DS3 Racing after.
