  • Engine fault - Car only 4 days old - advice please

    Hi all

I am new to the site and found you after searching for some information on an engine fault my brand new DS3 1.6 HdI airdream model has developed I found this forum. I was wondering if anyone had advice.

Basically picked up the car on Sep 1st 2011 - all appeared OK, turned on the engine on Friday 2nd and the service light came on which then went out when I next started the vehicle after filling with Diesel. No problems the following day until Monday 5th, service light and engine auto diagnostics light on, pulled over and phoned Citroen garage where I bought it. I'm not a motor mechanic but know a little about engines as my father is one.

To cut a long story short it appears the ceramic section off one of the glow plugs has broken and either disintegrated or fallen into the engine. Citroen have requested that the car stay in the garage for 3 days so they can replace the glow plug and check its all ok. I am very concerned - not only is the car brand new but surely if there is a piece of ceramic in my engine it is going to cause damage either immediately or further down the line. Even if it has disintegrated and blown through the exhaust valve it cant get past the catalytic converter (which I presume it has got) so lots of little pieces are stuck somewhere.... I am so disappointed

I was wondering if anyone else had this problem and should I request a new car or a new engine?

    Any advice gratefully received....

    Many thanks!

Ask for extended warranty for the engine and cat.

Unlucky mate, make sure your 100% happy when you pick your car up, and clearly state your concerns about the " the missing ceramic part " and the possibilities of it causing future damage. Get the garage to note your concerns on their database, and the fact that they never recovered "the missing part"

            All the best

Ok - A quick update, after being passed back and forth they have agreed that the car is not fit for purpose and that I am entitled to a new vehicle. this was ordered and should have left the factory on Sep 20th.... Still not heard anything I have to say not too impressed with how they are keeping me updated. I know I have a private numberplate on the car and this may take time to transfer but a quick phone call wouldn't do any harm!

Anyway I'm going to phone them again and see if I get any luck today - surely they should be falling over themselves to sort this out rather than me chasing them constantly!

Dealer is not the same company as PSA, dealer is only a reseller and ultimately has no control of output from Poissy.

My advice - talk to your mother, she has been lying to you, your father is not an engine!

In this instance Citroen can't really be blamed, as the part that failed will have been bought in - most likely Bosch.

Funny how it's so often the German bits that cause problems!

                          Hi,

Remember legally it's irrelevant which company made the wrong / bad part, etc. Your contract of sale is with the dealer, it's not even with Citroen (I won't entertain any direct discussion with Citroen myself during warranty as my contract is with the dealer).

Given the age of your car I would want a brand new replacement without question, so I am pleased they went there.

I've been getting superb service from my dealer (which incidentally was via an internet broker so a great price) on a small (but important to me) issue. Think they know I know a bit about the law but I can't fault them in respect to their customer service and I am very fussy when it comes to quality!

                          Regards,
                          Clive.
