I use Shell V Power Unleaded which I believe is rated at 99 RON.

Never filled it with anything but; I am told that the ECU gets 'used' to the fuel that you use and compensates for the bigger bang.
(Something to do with the knock sensor, bear with me, still learning!)

So if you use it as a one off, chances are little to nothing will happen.

If you used one or the other for say six monthes, you may gain a small power increase with the higher rated fuel.
We're talking single digits, maybe even none at all! V Power apparantly has more additives in it too, probably general to all premium fuels that help keep thing clean in fuel system land.

Also you may notice a slight increase in MPG depending on how you drive, but not sure the extra price offsets this as i've never bothered to work it out!

Tesco 99 octane only has 3% methanol/ethanol content compared to Shells 10%, so Tesco 99 would give slightly better performance. Methanol and derivatives are the fuel equivalent of a filler that dilutes it.

After using ULTIMATE for about 4 tankfulls had to put standard unleaded in today
Dear me- a small but noticeable drop in reaction/ lurch / boost etc etc
Thankfully only put about £15 in to get me home
Going to try 99 RON MOMENTUM if I can find some for next few tankfulls

WOW. I've just put a whole tank full of Tesco 99 into my 1.6 VTI Dstyle + and boy does it like the premium stuff! I'm 99% sure I'm not imagining it!

The onboard computer is showing higher readings when on the dual carriage way at 70 and when I floor it, it pulls so much better!

On the fuel cap it states 95 / 98 I believe. Does this mean 95+ and it wont matter and I'm wasting my money or it does in fact prefer the 99 Tesco shiz?

I put a few tanks of V-Power in my 150 a while ago (never filled with anything but Shell cos it's just down the road) and I think I noticed it responding slightly better on acceleration. I averaged 1 mpg more. Wow.

                        Which fuel burns cleanest

Anyone know which fuel burns the cleanest?
Not sure V-Power is for me and wanna switch back to BP ULTIMATE against advice from car enthusiast (Re performance claims)
Seems that certain items (Jets etc) can get carbonised in the engine
So was thinking would be best to go for the cleanest burning fuel- and think BP reckon ULTIMATE is the cleanest?
                        (They would wouldnt they)

With my last dynorun I found out that I got 3hp and 7nm less with Shell V Power (Ron 97) instead of BP Ultimate (Ron 98)
Also with the Shell the car feels a bit less smoother.

So for me, BP Ultimate (98) or when i'm in Germany Aral Ultimate (102)

In the UK BP Ultimate is 97 RON & Shell V Power is 98 RON. Fifth Gear recently did a comparison between several petrols, I will post a link when I've finished uploading it to youtube.

Started with ULTIMATE, then to MOMENTUM, then to V-POWER- now back to ULTIMATE
Did about 3 tank fulls or each
Car seems smoother and I like the cleaning claims from BP (Thinking of jets and carbonisation)
