Is it in limp-home mode? I was told that it was OK to drive with the engine management warning light on, as the diagnostics would prevent any damage to the engine (hence the limp-home). Having said that, mine needed a whole new VVT unit before it ran properly again....

Mine was in limp mode with the engine light flashing. Drove it half a mile home with two blown pistons.

          A+++ Would recommend! Not.

Had it 5 times, still not cured. Number 5 was today . So annoyed, car seems to run fine, not as punchy in acceleration but turbo still kicks in. It happens every fortnight, seriously considering asking for a new car as I'm wasting my life getting the car fixed and having to reorganise my life around when the car needs to be fixed. Its funny how every dealer claims not to know about how unreliable the THP is, they all say that they've never had a DS3 in for engine problems lol.......

Mine does a similar thing with teh depolution system warning. I usually find that it happens if I have been driving the car gently. A good blast clears the fault. However, I suspect that it is down to the sports cat I have fitted.

started the car this morning at -5 and boy did I struggle to get it to go ....................had the "Depollution failure "warning come up on the satnav screen and until the car had warmed up it ran like a bag of shit .

Anyway quick call to Sportiv to report the problem before taking the car to them and first problem no car for me to use while mine is in doc but it still had to go in .

30 mile drive over to them and once the car is warm it drives ok ...........the biggest surprise is once over there thinking I was on a loser about transport and a fight with CUK Sportiv had defrosted their van for me ...........What more can I say:cool:

So while I was there I thought they could fix my squeeky drivers window and sat nav screen which keeps going bright lemon colour

Today I heard on the news in Belgium that BMW does a recall for every Mini with the 1.6 THP from 2006 untill now for turbo and waterpump troubles. Hope Citroën does the same

It's the electric cooling pump for the turbo, can overheat and stop causing damage to the turbo or catch on fire.

BMW has announced a recall of 88,911 MINIs in the US following the discovery of a defect that is said to have caused a series of engine fires.

The US National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA) has issued the recall for MINI Cooper S and John Cooper Works models sold between 2007-2011.

The problem is reportedly caused by the electric water pump that cools the cars’ turbocharger. This has an electronic circuit board, which apparently can malfunction and overheat.

“The circuit board may smolder which could result in a vehicle fire” says the NHSTA.

The NHSTA began investigating the MINI Cooper S in October 2011, following reports of 12 fires from MINI owners. Eight said the fire occurred after the engine was turned off and five reported their cars were completely burned out.

The recall, which will commence next month, will see BMW replace the water pump free of charge, on the MINI Hatch, Clubman, Convertible and Countryman models affected.

It is not yet clear whether the recall affects UK cars too. Last year, the MINI was the 10th best selling car in the UK, with 35,845 models sold

Aha! This turbo cooling pump was replaced on my THP when they were trying to cure my power loss problems, on the instructions of CUK.

Apparently one of the fault codes pointed to a problem with it. Made no difference to the power loss!

So does the DS3 use the same component as the M*n*?
