That's good to hear, mate. They are terrific when they're going well, aren't they?

This is beginning to look like an issue of poor quality components. The whisper is that the original spec timing chain & tensioner weren't up to the job and have been replaced with stronger ones on new-build. Ditto the turbo cooling pump. And several people have also had problems with their fuel pumps.

If they'd not tried to save a few euros by cost-cutting on the ancillaries, they'd still have a shed-load of deliriously happy owners, like we all were before we started having these problems...

But you've upgraded the cam chain, yes?

my 'standard' THP has 17,000 miles on it and seems to be OK

It has had a new vac pump and and new pulley somewhere, and I'm told that the barely noticeable oil seepage on the top of the engine is a leaking connection on the PCP pipe, which is to be fixed shortly.

I have taken to running it on the higher RON petrol which has better anti-knock properties, just in case..................

              Keeping my fingers crossed.....................

You are having all the same problems that the 207 GTI and GT owners have has they use the same engine, I would of thought they would of changed the timing chain on new engines by now this was happing 4 years ago on the 207. I know a guy thats payed out over 3k for all new head etc has the design of the oil breather system or something was making all the valves stick.
