  • DPF

Hi, has anybody else had any issues with there DPF, I've had warning come on 3 times in last 6 weeks now which shouldn't happen with amount of driving I do to just keep being told to take it for a run?! Had the car just gone 3 years now and do same journeys everyday. I had same when first had the car and still under warranty they replaced the fault but not sure wether it was ecu something or egr valve but of course they have no record and with last time light coming on after just 6 days in abit worried to drive it to have it completely block as took it to a kwik fit garage as coarsest garage at the time to have a look and the did a re gen to flush it through but didn't charge as didn't seem to make any difference but says it about 20% clear

How many miles has your car done? I think the DPF has a limited life even with a perfect life cycle of regens when needed. Eventually they can't be cleared and you have to replace the DPF

oh no, just done 58000. Assume the replacement dpf would be the whole thing mega bucks rather than just a faulty egr valve or something?

I can't comment on what the actual issue is unfortunately, I believe an EGR valve would be a lot cheaper, haven't seen DPF costs quoted in quite a while but I think they were around £700-800 via Citroen last time I noticed That said you can get cheaper ones elsewhere on line but I don't know about the quality of those, research would be needed before making a purchase.

What sort of daily mileage are you doing ? Does the engine/exhaust get hot enough to activate the cleaning cycle every day (even if not needed) ?

Have you asked Citroen for an opinion ?

I do about 40 miles a day mostly fast roads, how do you know exactly how hot your engine gets to activate regen

That was the issue when I owned mine, they seem to trigger every 500-600 miles assuming the driving conditions are correct (constant speed, hot engine/exhaust etc). I believe you can encourage them by blasting along dual carriageways at 60 in third etc but I always felt that it would be easier if manufacturers allowed you an option on the car menu to activate the regen on a particular long journey

I presume you've noticed one when it's started? The engine changes noise pitch and the fans kick up a gear, especially noticeable when at the end of your journey and you have to sit with the car idling to let it finish.
