  • Install a BlackBox and Find + & - Connections

    Hey everyone!

Recently passed my test and got a DS3 1.6L Diesel DSport. Very lucky.

Now, since I just passed, I gotta install a black box to reduce my insurance, so, I went out earlier today and attempted to install it...i'm not a massive car guy and I couldn't for the life of me, find the positive and negative connections to attach the black box to.

If anyone here could advise me on how to install the black box then it would be insanely appreciated.

    Thanks a lot,

    Marti

Does it say which pos and neg it should be attached to ? If not, there are loads to put it on. Easiest is the radio or the cigarette lighter ones.

      Hi, thanks for your reply.

It has to be attached to the battery positive and negative's

Does it not have to be fitted by a tech?
I would suggest if you aren't 100% surr hook it straight to the battery (make sure you have a fuse inline). Mine was done on the ignition barrel though.

          Hi,

I believe I've installed it correctly now as I didn't know the negative was on the chassis instead of the battery itself.

I'll be in contact again if this doesn't work,

          appreciate the reply's

          Thanks,

          Marti

I'd never heard of DIY black box installations before, I thought an approved installer had to do them...... You live and learn

Get a cardboard box, spray it black, bung it in the boot and kerching! One black box installed and cheap insurance for life!

Self fitting black boxes seems dangerous.
Self removal is even more so... some (stupid) people who try to remove them trip the immobiliser and have to call their breakdown to rescue them from their own drive *cough*

Not heard of a self fitted black box, not one that isn't plug into a cigarette lighter type anyway!

                        Where you get it from?

All the telematics products I'm aware of the insurer sends somebody to you to install the box.

I ask because have heard of fake policies being sold to unsuspecting new drivers with fake boxes... :|
