  • Flat spot/slight hesitation

    Hello all,

I seem to have a flat spot/hesitation when I accelerate (at low rpm) - it's noticeable the most in 4th gear when doing about 30mph and accelerating relatively slowly. Once it gets past the hesitation it continues accelerating just fine.

I've booked the car into the garage next Tuesday but was wondering if anyone has any ideas in the meantime, any thing I can check? - it's driving me nuts not knowing issue.

My car is 1.6 petrol (vti style I think) - 37k - recent oil service.

    Thanks in advance

    Aaron

40mph 4th gear accelerating but once you build some revs it goes ok. Try downshifting.

Agreed, but I rag the absolute hell out of mine (fellow 1.6 vti owner)
Optimum shifting rpm I find is about 4500 for a nice power curve.
You've got to be in 3rd really if you want to accelerate at any rate from 40.

Probably also worth asking if you used to own a diesel? It may seem a little flat at low rpms. Don't be afraid to give it some juice!

I get what your saying, but the at the same rev range at other speeds it's absolutely fine.
          it just doesn't feel right.

          Maybe I'm being paranoid lol

Thanks for for taking the time to reply, I appreciate it.

Current speed / Best gear to shift to for on-the-go acceleration:
            0-20 / 1st
            30-40 / 2nd
            45-60 / 3rd
            70+ / 4th
            85+ / 5th

Really got to use the gears for the VTi, keeping it upwards of 3000rpm for good pull. Flat spot sounds a bit odd but nothing awful. Is it a recent thing or always been there?

On a really obvious side note you don't have the limiter switched on at 30 do you? That'll hold you back until you push through it.

                I do occasionally
Just worried I might lose a piston one day haha

I checked the limiter and it wasn't on!

I have noticed it in the past but it's more noticeable now.

I'm certain it isn't my driving style, I've drove more aggressively and the flat spot is certainly there and noticeable in 2nd and 4th, it seems to be when going up a hill/the engine being under load. Revs are not jumping so I don't think it's a clutch issue. It's like it holds back for a second then carries on as normal.

I didnt manage to get it to a garage as I had a dental emergency

I think I'll grab some new spark plugs and get a new fuel filter for it and see if it helps at all.

Thanks to everyone for your replies

After buying a standard spark plug tool and finding I then needed a special one for my ds3 I decided to just book the car into my local citroen specialist. It went on diagnostics and had no fault codes and the parameters were all fine. They stuck some new spark plugs in and it's now running perfectly again.
They reccomended that I use higher octane fuel and thrash the car a bit which I shall be doing this weekend.

Hopedully if anyone else has a similar issue then this thread may point them in the right direction.

Thanks again to everyone who replied

Having the same issue and as it's under warranty, the garage had it back after the engine management light came on and it went Pete tong! They delivered it back and said the coil pack on cylinder 3 needed a clean. Ran fine for a day and same is starting again. Back to the garage it goes in the morning! Ordered new spark plugs and socket removal tool myself incase they fuck it up again and it's out of warranty!
