From the really small first pic and the slightly bigger closeup pic I'm guessing it's something attached to the intake tube casing? Is that correct? Just a disclaimer I don't know what it will be, I'm just trying to work out the location for someone who knows diesels to then supply the answer.

Yes, it’s on top of the airbox and disappears down the back of the engine!
it doesn’t appear to affect the running of the car, I thought it’d throw up a fault but it hasn’t.
