  • Dash cam hard wire issue

    Hi

I've hard wired a Nextbase 412 dash cam into my DS3 using a piggy back fuse on fuse 9 the 12v socket. It was my understanding that this fuse isn't a permanent live (I didn't want a permanent live). However, when I plugged the dc in, it came on and started charging, even though the keys weren't even in the ignition. I've also tried it on fuses 5 and 6 (electric windows) and they're all the same. Am I mistaken in thinking Fuse 9 is not supposed to be a permanent live? Can anyone recommend another fuse I can piggy back off that will not be a permanent live?

Help appreciated as I can park my car up for days at a time and I don't want the dc to flatten the battery.

    Thanks.

I would also like to know which fuse slot should i should use for a non-permanent connection. I had the same issue when trying to hardwire some LEDs the other day.

    Anyone have some suggestions?

Bear in mind, almost all fuses go live when you open the door, etc... Wait for the powerlatch or just wait a few minutes after closing the doors. Eco mode will prevent that battery from going flat...

        Hi

If you bought the Nextbase hardwire kit you'll be ok because it monitors battery voltage and switches the camera off if your battery drops to a certain level.

I bought a hardwire kit off Ebay. I've been using it for a few weeks and I haven't had any problems with battery drain so far.
