  • Drivers door clicking when opening.

Hey. Wondering if anyone is able to help.i have a 13 plate ds3. Every time I open / close the drivers door it clicks really loudly. It seems to be on the different stages of opening if that makes sense. I'e tried spraying wd40 into the hinges to see if it will ease them off but it hasn' worked. I will take a video later today and upload so you can hear and see what's going on but any advice would be greatly appreciated. Cheers x

    Welcome to the club

I'll wait for the video to comment on the noise.

My both doors are clicking its a 2011 car. I have recently changed drivers stop hinge as it has broken part of the fastening screw as I have waited to long. The doors are large and heavy so the stop hinges collapse often I guess. So in my opinion after you start hearing clicking no oil can lube or fix it, only to wait for it collapse totally or change to new one. The screws that are holding stop hinges are made of honey.

Ok thank you. Would that be covered under warranty? I. Having problems uploading the video. Keep getting an error

Just a quick note to everyone, please do not use WD40 as a lubricant, it is a water dispersal product for use with electronics and will just wash away any decent oil/grease and leave a thin film of very light oil behind that is useless for lubrication. If you need to lubricate something use an oil such as 3 in 1, a decent grease or dependent on the use maybe copper ease. Mind you if your coil is damp or you have wet circuit boards then it is fabulous!

Might be easier to upload to YouTube as a private video and post the link here?

Sounds like the issue might be with the door check strap. It happens on older cars where the pivot pin hasn't been lubricated and makes the hole oval. The pin in the oval hole moves about making the clicking noise.

To fix the issue the straps will need to be replaced. Part number 9181.Q8 and £43 from the dealers.

Try some silcone spray or grease instead of wd40. As explained, it just isn't the right tool for the job and will only make your life harder...

usually a part of the mechanism connecting the door to the chassis needs tightening up- but it may be hidden

Thanks everyone. Car was in the garage yesterday for an exhaust problem ( the back box broke and fell off when i hit a rather large pothole ) since then the door hasn't been clicking.. not sure if the garage may have ightened or greased something and not said?
