  • DS3 1.6 eHdi misfire

So my 15 reg eHDI (32000 miles) has developed an intermittent misfire. Nothing too dramatic but it certainly coughs on one of the cylinders when it the fault is there. No engine management light or limp mode yet.

Took it the dealer (Arnold Clark) the other day as it is still in warranty (1 month left!!) and they did an ECU update, which didn't expect to work and the fault has returned today.

I'm a right in suspecting this is blocked fuel injector or similar problem?

Will Arnold Clark honour the warranty after it expires as I've reported the problem whilst in warranty?

Blocked injector would be the first thought, have you tried one of the fuel cleaner treatments?

As for the warranty, have you tried going to an actual citroen dealer and asking their opinion? They can answer your warranty question (hopefully).. If not ring Citroën UK and ask them directly.

I thought I read in the manual not to use fuel system cleaners.

I know it was definitely in the manual of my old car.

Using them could go against your warranty claim.

As long as the fault has been reported before the end of the warranty they have to honor it.

Also a misfire should log a code as the ECU would know by the way the crank senor picks up the acceleration of each fire on the fly wheel. If there is a misfire the ECU will tell you in which cylinder it came from.

My money is on a faulty doser or EGR valve.

Does it happen at the same time, can you get the fault to recur by doing something or is it random?

It's currently random, bit when the fault is there it's a consistent misfire as in it does it every fire of the problematic cylinder.
