Particule filter error

I filled up with Diesel today at Asda and got a P filter low message and the Service light appear not long after driving off. I drive motorway miles every day so I can't see how it has become clogged.

Is this potentially a dodgy batch of Diesel and if so am I fine to continue driving on it?

Try giving it a 10-15 minute thrashing at high revs to force a regen cycle to trigger. If it still is faulty, try going for a DPF clean.

I drove at 80-90 down the motorway and dropped gears to get the revs up a fair bit. I haven't turned it back on since I got home earlier, so I'll see in the morning. I need to do another 100 mile round trip tomorrow before I can investigate further. In terms of DPF clean what do I need to do? Also bear in mind I've never had a top-up of the DPF liquid since having the car in 2012 and I've reached 130K miles.

I'm not sure on service intervals for the DPF as I don't have a diesel, but it sounds like something for a 100k or 150k service. The service book will have more info, and the handbook might too. For DPF cleans, there are companies which connect up to the exhaust manifold and chemically clean it out at your own home. Probably high temperature and pressure oxidising agent to burn off the soot. Alternatively your local garage should offer something.

Thanks. Turned it on again this morning and the message is still coming up as 'P filter add low'. If it was clogged wouldn't a different message appear?

The additive level is low and needs to be refilled. You do not say the model year of the car but probably referring to Eloys fluid that has a reservoir attached to the fuel tank and is only accessible from under the car. Add blue being low would have a different set of warnings.

It is a 2011 model so Eloys fluid. I guess this will need a mechanic to sort as I have no technical mind at all! Will they be able to turn the service light off though or will that need a dealer?

Will need to be hooked up and have its counter reset. So dealer type service computer but the mechanic may have that.
