  • Reset ECU adaptation by disconnecting battery?

I've had engine hesitation / juddering between 1500-2500 rpm especially on sixth gear. I know it sounds very much like carbon build-up on intake valves, but its only 30000km since those were cleaned properly and also I got whole timing chain and tensioners completely upgraded to the latest spec parts by warranty just some 5000km ago. No faults are logged. So I hope/guess the main issues of THP engine should be out of question.

I was wondering if one can reset the ECU adaptation values by just disconnecting battery... I had mild success to reduce the judder by asking the service center to reset ECU adaptation figures (it seems sensitive to fuel quality). Factory recommended ECU reset process, as I learned from service center, requires reset with a diagnostics tool and thereafter warming up engine on idle with all accessories switched off until engine cooling fan starts.

What I learned by googling is that ODB-2 compatible engines do not reset fault codes if the battery is disconnected. How about THP ECU memory of adapation values? Does the battery disconnection do anything or do I need a diagnostics tool to reset the adapation? If the battery disconnection works, how long time is needed to reset everything relevant? I am familiar with BSI reset process.

I was under impression that HPFP problems would first appear as engine not starting on the first attempt. My engine starts just fine warm or cold and has 97tkm on the clock. Anyway, I think I made small progress by burning one tank of fuel mixed with injector / engine cleaner.

Still, if anybody knows the answer to my original question about battery disconnection, that would be awesome (might try it anyways later on).
