  • Wiper problem

I today noticed my fast wipers don’t work. I’ve not had the car too long so I don’t know if they ever worked.

    The intermittent wipers work fine
    The normal wipers work fine

But when the wipers are selected to the fastest setting they just stop on the screen regardless of where they are until the normal setting is selected again.

Anyone else had this issue? Any advice?

That the problem with there being no Haynes manual for these cars. There will be a relay somewhere which you will hear clicking when the wipers are on. it could have failed I guess or the contact in the stalk could be funny. Sorry cant help further I've only just got the DS3 as you know and not had time to find the relays yet. seen the glovebox Fuseboard when I was messing with fitting component speakers today but didnt have a close look

        disconnected or broken wire somewhere
could try disconnecting the car battery for 5 minutes, see if anything resets

I've not heard of this issue before neither and I can't find any threads with the same problem and a quick Google doesn't find anything either. Could be a job for the dealers/garage where you got it from. Let us know what it was when you get it fixed, as I'm sure it will also help others.

              Thanks for the advice everyone!

I am useless when it comes to electrics so wouldn’t know where to start with the relays but I know the very basic of things.

I will try unplugging the battery at the weekend to see if that does anything.

The faulty switch in the stalk could be a possibility! I have heard this is a bit of a nightmare to change with the drivers side airbag needing deactivating and the steering wheel needing to come off. (Don’t know how true this is)

Other things I’ve considered are the wiper motor or the fuse but surely it wouldn’t work on the other functions if that was the case. (I’m guessing)

I will update as and when I know more.

'they just stop on the screen regardless of where they are'

I'm guessing that the 'self-park' at the bottom of the screen is a mechanical feature of the wiper motor - certainly used to be in my days of messing with cars!

If that is the case then something has failed within the motor, or the electrical connections to it, which is also affecting the high speed setting.

There are used motors and a wiring loom currently on ebay if needed

I would start by checking the wiring connectors - looks like five way plugs

and of course...………… all this faffing about and stress trying to find what the problem is, is why you call an expert, and why they cost money
Maybe just not use fast wipe

                    Update...

I’ve finally got to the bottom of this issue, albeit at a cost.

                    Checked battery - no luck
Checked relays - no luck (I could hear the relays clicking but couldn’t locate so I could only assume all was fine)
                    Check a few other bits

Anyway, at this point I wasn’t comfortable with taking the car apart as this surpassed my expertise.

So I booked the car into a garage and it turns out it was the wiper motor that needed replacing.

Happy it’s all fixed, shame it came at such a cost.

Thanks for the advice everyone gave!

Nice one. Seems strange it was the motor, when the motor was working at other levels of speed
Least you got the expert on it

If it was costly probably would have put up with the 2 speeds myself
