  • THP..................it begins

I just 'kin knew that I shouldn't have said my 10 plate 17,000 mile THP was going well

Travelled down from Middlesbrough this morning and for two periods during the journey there was a significant lack of power. She wouldn't accelerate in 6th gear at all - no warning lights or any unusual indications or sounds.

The power came back for the non-motorway part of the journey and it's still OK

I'm minded to book it in at the dealer's tomorrow simply to get it on record, even if they tell me that they can't find anything wrong.

To save me reading through all the old posts did anyone's camchain/VVT motor problems start like this?
Bog standard 2010 DSport THP150, 1973 Clan Crusader, 2003 Harley Davidson Softail, 2007 Vespa 250GTS, 2011 Peugeot Boxer campervan ,a few push bikes, and one eMTB

Yes! No funny noises, misfiring, hesitation - just no ooomph.

Mine was like that for a fair while - power cutting out & returning seemingly at random - before it showed the anti-pollution system warning light.

it's no joke when you put your foot down to overtake & find that there's nothing there - or indeed when, anticipating that the power has gone awol, you boot it & find yourself heading towards the horizon at an unexpectedly rapid pace. Both are equally dangerous.

Shall we all hum the tune "another one bits the dust"...........sounds like a case of elastic timing chain malfunction

took my car into the dealer this morning not expecting much since she's been running fine since Sunday.

However they've found stored fault codes that have led them to conclude that it's a cam timing issue, and they now need special Citroen tools to identify the extent of the problem. They are anticipating a major job however which could involve changing the crankshaft sprocket and umpteen other bits and pieces

The tools have been sent for (you would imagine that main dealers would have these given the number of issues developing?).

Anyway they have asked for my car for 3 days once the tools arrive and will loan me a DS3 whilst they fix it!

This link may have something to do with it although it appears to refer to older non VVT versions?

Yep sounds about right when mine failed they changed 15 items relating to the timing chain .....not sure why they need special tools to work out whats wrong but I suppose every dealer is differant

I should imagine it's the engine timing set referred to in that link that I posted?
