  • Car not liking the cold!

Over the past few weeks when its been below zero, first thing in the morning when im reversing and putting full lock on to get out of the drive, iv been getting a weird feeling through the steering wheel like iv drove over a few large cobbles accompanied with a juddering sound. It sounds and feels like its at the front wheels. first time it did it, i jumped out of the car to see if it was a flat tire or sumat falling off, but its neither. once iv pulled away it doesn't do it again till the following morning. What could this be an should i be worried? is it my power steering?

Do You Let The Car Warm Up A Bit ( Few Minutes ) Before You Pull Off ?

      Just Try That

If I set set off just after starting the engine the steering is heavy for roughly a second as the electric motor warms up but what you're describing doesn't sound like that.

Does it ever do it when the car has warmed up? Have you hit any large potholes/curbs recently? Have you tried putting the steering on full lock and having a good look around the wheel suspension area for any obvious problems, something loose/rubbing wheel etc? Is the car completely standard (wheels/tyres/suspension)?. Either way I would get it looked at by Citroen if it keeps happening.

          Everything is standard.
Iv not tried letting it warm up before i pull off. it doesn't do it again once iv turned the wheel for the first time. As for pot holes, there everywhere i do spend half the time driving dodging them so nothing major, never curbed my lil brum.

I get the same. I reckon it's cold tyres "sticking" to the road surface and then releasing.
Bit like rubbing your finger across a smooth shiny surface, like a table top - you apply pressure and your finger stalls, then after continued pressure it releases suddenly.

I also get this. The wheels sound like there knocking against something inside the arch. I agree with Deesse trols because it only happens when it a cold morning.

I had a 110 Hdi and now have a 90 eHdi and they both exhibit exactly the same trait, not just when it's cold either. feels like the steering rack is fully extended and rubbing on something.

                      Thanks for the helpful comments.
When i next take the car in i will mention it. I must say Deesse Trols, it hasnt done it when my drives been covered in snow.

When I first got it my first thought was the geometry was way out, but it only happens occasionally and it's good to hear I'm not the only one to experience it.

I'll also mention it at the next service, although I am concerned it will knacker the tyres.
