  • Timing chain

hi all this is going to be along chat lol, ok I had the engine light come on ,ok so phoned AA warnity take it to Alford’s to have it checked the code showed crankshaft senor, so Halfords did it reset engine light off I go. Next day light came back on my son has a diagnostic machine it said the same fault again, so back I go to Halfords put it back on the machine fault code this time is p1006 timing chain, they can’t do it it as dealer only. So ring AA have to take it to another garage to check it out my car has only done 21,600 and is a 14 plate but I only just had the service done today. The last time it was serviced was at 12000 miles in April 2016 I brought the car last March. Soo know that the AA will not cover the timing belt you no what they are like small print clauses.. Anyway had he car serviced by my regular garage I trust completely, he said the timing belt is making a slight noise but he has heard worse the senor that Halfords put on was a decent one,he said that Citroen May do the timing belt free of charge as it’s only done small amount of mileage, also when he put diagnostic machine on the code for the senor showed up again and as I was thinking shouldn’t both codes shown up.Do any of you guys have any ideas may have to take it to a specialist garage. I have the DS3 techno 155 THP petrol.thanks in advance and sorry for the long post.

Hi . Timing chain issues are a known problem on the THP engine. They stretch over time and so rattling chains and error codes relating to it do occur frequently unfortunately. If your AA warranty doesn't cover it, then it is expensive to get replaced. You could take it to the dealer you bought it from (if you did buy it from one originally) to see if there can be any goodwill gesture, but otherwise I'm afraid it's gonna cost a fair few hundred quid to put right.

Also noticed you said this. Doesn't matter how few miles your car has done either. If it hadn't had a service since April 2016 (nearly 3 years ago) until yesterday, then any dealer will not offer you any kind of goodwill gesture (as I had previously posted above) as 2 yearly services have been missed. It will be their way of getting out of paying or offering you anything. Really essential to keep the annual services done and your service book stamped.

Thanks guys for your input there are a couple of garages that have been recommended so going to give them a call tomorrow, I am going away on Thursday and not using my car so hopefully they may be able to do it while I am away, don’t want to leave it to long just in case the chain jumps and then my engine is screwed .
