Should exhaust brackets be covered on an extended warranty with 32500 miles on the clock?

Hi all, just to expand on my post, took the car in to dealership with Abs light having come on, they said f.n.s wheel sensor broken and would require new bearing, and associated bits and pieces costing a total of £612, they also said that the brackets on the exhaust system were broken at two points and because of corrosion might be impossible to weld, this would cost nearly £1000 to remedy, I said that I have a extended warranty with Citroen so no problem, wrong, not covered apparently for damage due to corrosion ??? the car has only done 32500 miles since new !!! am going to query all this with Citroen but wondered if any other members have had similar problems, cheers all.

get on the phone to citroen head office for sure, that is ludicrous unless you are living on a beach or in a saltpit yit shouldnt be that corroded surely

The corrosion on the exhaust bracket seems to be a fairly common issue and I'm not sure even an extended warranty would cover it, as its probably classed as "wear and tear", like tyres and brakes etc. It sucks coz I have heard of these snapping due to them rusting to pieces. I've seen others get them welded, or have the exhaust totally replaced for an aftermarket stainless steel one, which then should last aaaaages. Good luck and let us know how you get on with Citroën.

customer care ???? what a joke, been waiting 10 days now for some one to contact me, have rang them 5times now to be told I'll be contacted within 2/3 days, still waiting.

The exhaust mounts were a well known problem, and to last 32000 odd miles is pretty good
Feel free to argue with the extended warranty providers, but for the costs involved just get it done at kwikfit or somewhere

IMO warranty is for major problems like engines blowing, pistons breaking, DPF's going up the shute, etc etc

Mine is a 2014 on 32k miles, and my MOT in Sept 18 and Oct 17 both said corrosion to exhaust hanger, but its still securely in place. I haven't bothered worrying about it as i plan to get a full cat-back in summer anyways. Perhaps i'll have a little look at the weekend just incase it's ready to fall off any day soon lol.

If the hangers are truly done for i'd say just go to a reputable exhaust shop and get a custom back box fitted. If you're not wanting a full cat-back, just the backbox will be affordable, probably cheaper than OEM or at least very similarly priced and will sound a bit nicer too. Unless of-course that then plays against your warranty. IDK about these things as i don't have a Citroen Warranty. Just my two pennies on the matter.

Thanks for the replies all, to update, after two weeks and ten phone calls, Citroen customer care finally spoke to me today, they say that it's down to wear and tear so unfortunately they cannot help, what a waste of time, just hope they send me one of those surveys to fill in and they've got a rating of minus 10, thanks for the suggestions but I might do what we used to do in the 60's and 70's ( I'm 67 ) and take the bulb out of the ABS and tie the exhaust up with a bit of chicken wire.

Just to let you know, when mine went (and I posted about getting a stainless steel replacement in these forums) I found that the mounts are constructed in such a way that I couldn't use an outdoor cable-tie to hang the exhaust up while I waited for the appointment for the new exhaust . The mounts just appear from through the heat shielding, as far as I remember. Hopefully you can find a way, but I had no way of getting right under the car.

P.S. Exhaust being held up with an old leather belt is the best I can recall xD

Hopefully getting the car sorted this week, and unbelievably I did get a request from Citroen asking for my opinion of their customer care service, naturally I gave them 10 out of 10 for their ingenuity in managing to conceal the fact that my extended warranty was only valid if a part failed on a tuesday, just after teatime, provided it was a leap year .

Hi all, update, got the ABS sensor replaced,seemed completely intact to me dispite dealership saying it was damaged, however the warning lights have not gone out and now the amber engine symbol is lit, also every few miles the amber service light comes on together with the snow symbol light alongside the gear mode indicator, any advice would be appreciated.

the only real advice now really is totake it back to the people who just carried out the work and tell them to sort it, any other way is just gonna have you having to start from the beginning with a new mechanic and also probably have to spend a chunk more money. I know you have maybe lost faith in the garage who have messed you about but the cheapest option is usually to get the guys at fault to sort it as they are already on the hook for the work.

You can get an exhaust bracket kit on ebay, clamps round exhaust and uses exiting hanger.

Had the exhaust bracket rust through on my wife's DS3 Cabriolet after 3 years and 10k miles!!! Citroen said it would be around £600 for a new exhaust.....after I stopped laughing I asked if they could not just weld it!? Apparently they are not authorised to weld it by Citroen, but "unofficially" suggested I visit an exhaust outlet. Anyway, a visit to a local garage and a £20 deposit to the tea fund later, one exhaust bracket repaired and welded :-) It also sorted the annoying tapping that had been occurring for some time, guess the exhaust bracket was knocking where it had split/rusted through.
