Drive Shaft Failure

My 2018 DS3 has been in for its first service today after 9,000 miles. The drivers cv joint has collapsed and it needs a new drive shaft (this means nothing to me), the dealership said its safe to drive until Citroen authorise repairs but I'm worried I might be causing more damage. Does anyone have any experience of this? Is it a common fault?

If the cv joint has collapsed as the dealer said then it would be dangerous to drive. It must be something different than that but might be related to cv joint like rubber gaitor covering cv may be damaged .
