  • Oil problem? Rattling sound

Since a few weeks my car makes a rattling sound on cold start and drives less smooth than before.

I’ve read the internet/forum and it seems a chain/chain tensioner problem.

The strange thing is, when I fill up the oil even a little bit the car does not rattle and drives smooth like before. This latst for a couple of days and then it starts again. Oil levels are OK.

anyone here knows what this problem could be? Oil pressure?

what model is the car? It may well be timing chain assembly wearing so best get it checked, but also check you have the right oil.

    Some do just get noisy

Mine was noisy first minute or 2 until the oil circulated

Hi Chris, car is a 2013 model thp only 37k kilometers on the clock.

the oil I use is MPM 5W30.

I don’t mind the noise but it just does not drive as smooth (acceleration).

Okay, car is going back to garage on wednesday. Change oil to 0W30, replace chain tensioner, timing check and inlet carbonization check.

Let’s hope the tensioner and new oil will do the job, so I can get on moving to stage 2.

Hi LeviDS, does the noise went away?

I am currently in Germany and I have no clue about the price here to replace the chain tensioner, etc....

Could you share with us how much was the bill?

          Thanks mate.

Full chain setup and new 0w30 oil changed, car fixed .

@renancrash: my garage did it under coulance so it only cost me about 200.
