  • Coolant levels constantly needing topped up?

Is it normal for the coolant levels to constantly need a top up? My neighbour is a mechanic and he had a look and said he couldn’t find a leak but he said using the heater a lot will lower the coolant level and in this weather I use it fairly often to clear up the misted windscreen, is this a thing or is there a fault somewhere?

Check header tank for leaks. Mine was leaking where the two halfs come together. Had to top it up all the time untill i finally noticed it. Thoughed i had a blown headgastket for a while.

No, coolant should disappear- its leaking from somewhere

to start, put a bit of cardboard under the engine bay overnight for a few nights

Any coolant would overspill from the undertray onto the cardboard

      how much u loosing?

Sorry, been busy the past couple weeks so I’ve completely forgot about it, I’ll get my neighbour to check the header tank in the week and I’ll try the cardboard thing, thanks.

It’s not losing loads just a pain in the arse constantly needing to top it up every 3/4 weeks so I’m sure there’s a leak somewhere
