  • All roads lead to HPFP failure....

Hi all, been having some ongoing issues with my ds3 (2013, 155 thp).

Been struggling with a misfire, lumpy idle when cold, almost fine once warm.

I've changed sparks and ignition coils, but the symptoms remain. I will get EML on every few weeks with the codes, P1336, P1339 and P1340, which I believe all point to various misfires across the cylinders, I can clear these and the car will run but always with the dodgy idle.

From reading the forums it sounds like it may well be the HPFP. But I had some additional issues which I was wondering if anyone could shed some light on. I'm getting a fairly large amount of white smoke from the exhaust from start up, this generally clears after a few miles. I also had an oil leak from somewhere towards the left hand side of the engine bay (when looking at the car from the front) a few months ago. This mysteriously 'fixed' itself, but I'm wondering if this could have been a precursor to the issues I am now facing? Any input appreciated.

The timing chain tensioner loosened itself on mine and caused an oil leak on the left rear of the engine. It was a sod to get at to re-tighten.

I've just had it replaced on the recommendation of an independent Peugeot Citroen specialist. Seems to have cured the occasional morning chain rattle that I was getting

Thanks for the replies. I ended up getting the torque pro app and monitoring the fuel rail pressure to see what it looked like. It is all over the place at idle, very erratic and the app gives me an error code of P0172 - system too rich. From reading around this could mean a few things but the hpfp looks like a likely candidate at the minute.

Just to complete this story in case anyone finds it in the future, I ended up replacing the HPFP with the mini R56 one, as far as I can tell it is the same part as the citroen one but about half the price. Around 1000 miles done since the replacement and the cars been absolutely fine, smoothest idle it's ever had!
