  • Clutch Repair/Replace

    Hi there,

I've had my DS3 for around 2 years now and it is an 11 reg diesel with the same clutch from new. it's got around 73,000 miles on the clock and the clutch is finally on its last legs (I basically have zero bite point now, I just have to bring the clutch up to basically disengaged and give it gas and just pray it doesn't stall). I asked my usual mechanic how much it would cost for a clutch repair and he said he couldn't do it (he's retired and can't manage a full-on clutch change anymore), but told me there was something else within the clutch system that in itself might cost somewhere around ?600 on top of whatever crazy price a new clutch might command. I personally thought it'd be crazy for Citroen to fit a clutch that could effectively write off the car in terms of economics, but I figured if I was looking for advice as to what to actually do about it, this would be the place to ask.

So any advice/suggestions or information about the clutch and repair/replacement costs would be hugely appreciated.

    Cheers!

    Joe.

Thought my clutch needed replacing as was making funny noises last year (Was a disconnected Turbo pipe making the squawk in the end) and they quoted me a figure of around 900pounds saying something about a dual mass flywheel?

Anyway, was just happy that the clutch didnt need replacing at that sort of price

    Good luck

That's what it was, the dual-mass flywheel thingy, more expensive than the damn clutch, stupid money. I've already had a slave cylinder go within the last 2 months so that's usually a sign that the clutch's days are numbered which seems to have been true this time round, I'm just hoping it isn't a ridiculous price because I'd be tempted to just part-ex it if it gets into ?1k+ silly territory considering the car itself is worth probably ?2.8k max considering it's CAT D history and the fact that it's a diesel in an electric/petrol-hybrid era.

Anyways, the luck is much appreciated and probably needed lol

        ^ ^ ^

Agree with everything you say- i was quoted around 900 but then told it could be as much as 1200. Mine is only worth about 3k too
Would suggest you look to use used parts from a breakers (Risky i know) and use a small independant garage and haggle on the labour costs
Gonna be a days work and tools/garage use etc etc (350 ish) then the used parts on top. Ebay or breakers/ Parts gateway etc to find good used parts

        Thats what i would do
