  • Chain tensioner

    Hi,
I am new to this site and it may have been asked 1000 times before, but I could ot see a search function. I have a 2013 DS3 1.6 THP sport 6 speed. I have heard that the 2010/2011 model has chain tension issues also on the Mini S same princess engine.
Are there still issues with it?
What do other memers do with the same engine I have? Any preventitive replacement? If so can you replace the tensioner without having the engine on TDC / locking pin installed and cams locked?
    Cheers

Hi. Welcome to the Forum. Nice to see a human, 95% contributions are BOTs

I had a 2011 and a 2013 THP, and luckily had no issues with the chain/ tensioner. It was mainly the tensioner but i think by 2013 the issue was not a real problem
If on start up, you hear a ticking/clicking, thats known as the THP death rattle. Get the tensioner checked out pronto

Other than that, keep engine oil topped up the max, and low idle rate for first 2 minutes, then next 10 minutes.
No revving like f+++ on start up.

your main worry should be the inlet valves carbonising up: Any shudder, or stutter: get a walnut blast pronto, or pistons can be affected.

Happy motoring- fab car if looked after

Altho I now have a Diesel Sport. LOL.
