  • Acoustic Windscreen

What the hell is one of these? Got a crack in the windscreen, and Autoglass asked if we had one of these screens fitted. Apparently we have as there is a ear symbol printed on the screen in front of the driver! Anyone know what they do? Maybe something to do with having the HiFi sound in the car? Or wind noise? Just curious.

I think its just an extra layer on the windscreen which reduces the noise in the car by a few db

        thank you google.....

This is avalable on quite a few cars. The acoustic windscreen is a laminated glass with a layer designed to cut down noise transmission. It is claimed to reduced the noise inside the car by about 3 dB, more if acoustic front quarterlights are also fitted.

It was actually designed to allow thinner glass (reduced weight) as previously thinner glass had allowed too much noise transition.

Here's the horse's mouth on it (if you can dodge the hype)!
