  • Speed limiter verses speedo

I would like views on this it relates to my topic in chit chat ref speeding ticket.
I went out early this morning quiet roads to play with my speed limiter. As I have said earlier, though it may be a great gadget when constantly transiting all the speed limits of wonderful country on a relitivley short journey 36 miles it can be a major distraction.
I noted this morning that on a pefectly flat surface limiter set to 20 speedo indicates 20. Set 30 and speedo shows 29 set 40 speedo shows 38 set 50 speedo shows 47 and 60 shows 56. I guess it may be designed this way and can be compensated for by increasing the speed limiter figure. But which one is telling the truth. Damned if I know. and it could mean the differance between ticket or no ticket. If you are a driving instructor/ examineer dont bother answering cos I know what you will say.

As id imagine the analogy speedo is just an analogy display of digital data from ecu id guess its set to underread slightly as almost all Speedos do

You've come here asking for advice yet you've shunned away two critical groups that could advise you best.

I'm pretty sure I'm right in saying that when mobile and static camera's are used, they err on the side of discretion when deciding what speed to send you a FPN at. You had one policeman in your last thread say 10%+2; now I'm pretty sure this isn't an official rule however, it is a sensible one. Most devices are going to be a few clicks, ms, mph incorrect. That's unfortunately something that happens when things are mass produced.
In the case of the car; this may be half a mph to 2/3mph incorrect (also note the position you're sitting at when looking at the dials) but in the same way the camera's used aren't likely to be judging your speed as there's always going to be this small margin of error. That's why you give it this leeway, to ensure you absolutely caught something.

In your case, you were doing nearly 40 in a 30 when you got caught. How much more likely do you think it is you being caught, doing that speed compared to someone doing 32/33? You mentioned you have 42+ years experience driving, I've only been driving 6 years however, in that short time I can feel what 30/40/70/100+MPH feels like, it isn't any more difficult for me than it should do for you.
Having said that, we all drop into a relaxed state every now and again or simply want to get somewhere faster. In my case, I've received 3 points in my first year of driving and was issued a S59 two years ago. These things serve as a reminder and a punisment for breaking the rules.

Nobody on here made you drive faster than you should have been doing so stop taking your frustration out on them. Accept that you fucked up, man up about it. Stop trying to place blame elsewhere, pay your £60 and lend your license to Swansea. You'll get your license back, your insurance will go up by a small amount, ensuring you've not had any other changes this year that would affect it. You might need to inform any companies you work for that you have these points if you're driving a company vehicle and then life will go on. Simples.

the speedo is designed to be out by this amount.

I set mine at 32mph and it flashes up 30 on those speed signs

I have never sat in a modern car where the speedo was 100% accurate above 30mph. They do tend to be slightly out and normally on the good side, i.e that it says you're going faster than you are.

I can see why you sign yourself the bitch according to the speed camera I was doing 35 so how is that nearer to forty than thirty? They are supposed to be calibrated to a very high degree of accuracy. No need for swearing or anglo saxon language MODERATOR please note. As for my driving experience pretty much split between 2 and 4 wheels ( wont count Centurion and Chieftain tanks) it displays all those years of good driving and no problems as opposed to you getting a ticket in your first year and an S59 a few years later. That aint much to shout about
Of course I expect to pay up and yes I will be as vigilant as ever but I imagine anyone would be cheesed off for the sake of 1 MPH.
PS as for judging your speed to a degree that would prevent you getting booked thats a load of tosh.

Btw... Don't Try And Blame The Speedo / Speed Limiter, You Were Going Faster Than You Should Have, Just Accept The Rape...

And No Speedo Is 100% Accurate, Just Like No Speed Camera Is 100% Accurate...

I'm sorry, do you not understand the concept of hyperlinks and how they work?

If your indicated speed was flagged at 35, it's likely you were going faster than that as per my previous explanation; incase you didn't know. This is still over the speed limit for the road you were on. MODERATOR please note that the swearing in my last post wasn't directed at Royal Bazzar, I didn't call him a cunt or anything. I simply stated that he fucked up..

Congratulations on passing your tests! You're not the only one with a bike license. Again, I think you missed the point I was making about my "convictions". I was simply stating that my views are from an unbias onlooker.

I'm not having a go at you for the fact you're pissed off. I was having a go at the way you blamed the car and the community for your mistake and then trying to find blame anywhere else when we refuted.

I would suggest that if you were doing a true 35 mph your speedo would be showing something around 37mph - mine reads 2 mph fast almost throughout the speed range.

Speedos can be calibrated accurately; however, the speedo on a production car is not calibrated, it's just made to a standard setting which will normally mean that to comply with the law which says that speedos must not under-read it will be deliberately be made to over-read.

35 would round up to 40

I got caught in my VXR doing 46mph but I'm pretty sure I was doing 50.

Personally I think speedos are up to 10% out and this same 10% is the 10% police allow +2mph before they stop you.
