  • 110 Hdi infinite turbo lag, juddering

this is my 3rd 110Hdi engined car and I've just hit 44K in it (10 plate).

It's been faultless up until a few weeks ago, where twice now I have pulled out from a junction, changed to 2nd gear and the engine hasn't picked up. It's almost like turbo lag, but it never cuts in and the revs stick at 2000-ish.

Dip the clutch and rev, all is well car sets off like a train !!!

had the car into the dealers - nothing on diagnostics (quelle surpris) but tech says there is a software issue and car need a remap and they'll need it for two days. Reckons it's a known issue and ECU is picking wrong driving style mode - i.e. it thinks it's on motorway cruise and I'm trying to accelerate hard...

I'm an engineer and the explanation sounds very plausible... anyone else had this issue?

and today, to top things car is running rubbish !!! jerking acceleration in traffic at 20-30mph. Everytime I take my foot off the gas the engine braking is immense so it's a rough ride.

Booting it it seems to pull fine and run ok, just when I try and tootle it doesn't like it!

I've just done 260 mile and averaged 68mpg, could it be DPF regen playing silly burgers?

any ideas? it's going in on friday now...

    cheers

Have you asked them to check the particulate filter?

Well actually he said there was a new ecu sw version they needed to try. Apparently the tech has to drive the car through different styles for 100 miles...

Fingers crossed it will fix it, don't like driving something I'm not trusting. Though I'll be be buying a new one in August when it hits 60k

            well...

it was reprogrammed and remapped and it was perfect for 220miles...

been getting an intermittent 'risk of particle filter clogging' nag on the screen. It comes and goes, but the hesitance sucks!

Dealer has had the car for a day to run around and agrees it's rubbish and all roads lead to the particle filter being at fault.... A week to order/drain/replace. Will keep you posted !

p.s. on the plus side mpg has been in the high 60's - must be slowing me down

What fuel are you putting in? Some supermarkets fuel is pants, try a tank of v power diesel, i never touch supermarket fuel , my brother uses it and his car smokes like crazy, not a hint of smoke from mine, I've used shell in the last 4 diesel cars and none of them smoked show it seems to burn much cleaner and i never had a dpf problem.
I couldn't fix yer brakes so I made your horn louder!

it doesn't matter what fuel, it often gets filled at BP one end and Esso the other end (I do a 1000 mile commute a week). I have used supermarket fuel and theres no apparent difference in mpg or performance.

I know all fuels start the same and it's an additive thing... When it comes back, I'll try stick to my regular gas stations (BP/shell/Esso) though some of the motorway service stations are still in the high 140's !!!

                      well...

It was with the stealer for two weeks - it's been driven, reprogrammed and had a new dpf!

It set off well from the garage, but within 50 miles the old hesitance issue has returned... It's not always there, but when it kicks in the car just loses the zippyness and when you touch the brakes you almost go through the screen!!! not sure if thats just the enhanced engine braking or connected ?!?

it will be back to dealer this week !

Dragging this thread from the past, my HDi 110 is displaying the same symptoms regarding the turbo lag and engine braking at low speeds.

How is the car now? Did you ever cure the problem?

+1, I've noticed recently there's been a change in reaction on acceleration in the higher gears.

Noticed it mainly whilst merging onto a dual-carriageway at 50-55 in 5th gear.

If the DPF is failing, get the car to your local Terraclean service engineer and have the DPF cleaned out. this service works very well.

                              sorry about the late reply....

I walked away from the wreckage at 62K miles and traded in for another Dsport in October 2012. This went through the same issues up to 45K with trips in and out of the garage. A new dpf, new fuel pump, etc...

They did a software upgrade that seemed to cure the dpf issue, but never did fix the lag and immense engine braking!!!

Traded it in again at 60K for another Dsport 115Hdi, this has now done 15K (in 4 months) and there's been no issues so far other than once is a while I get the hesitance. I think thats when it's going through a regen.

                              Fingers crossed!
