  • Oil change intervals ?

My car is a DS3 THP model,

I have it now for one and a half years, haven't made any modifications at all yet. I 've done the first oil and filter change at 4,300km ( i think is around 3000miles), but now the 6 months time have passed. I called the citroen dealer and they told me i don't need to take in for an oil change since i only covered 2500kilometers from the oil change. They also told me that as long as i don' t drive it under extreme conditions (frequent start-stops,having the engine run at iddle for too much time, using the car for towing) its ok to leave the oil for around 10months (or 7,500kilometers).

I've read the posts of other people having a lot of problems/issues with the thp engine. My car so far does not have any problem at all but i would like to be cautios about it.

If i leave the oil for a bit longer in my car as the dealer suggested would that be safe/ ok ?

Changing the oil is a very easy job and something you can do yourself if you wish too. There is nothing wrong with following the dealer guidelines but as Oil is the life blood of any engine it does make sense to change it on a regular basis.

Can anyone give me a pointer to where the oil filter is?
Have bought a new one and its quite small but cant see it from above, although been told its top of engine

Had the DS3 up on the jack today (Axle stands as back up) fitting a splitter, but didn't think about looking for the oil sump plug
Expect its under the plastic protector running underneath the engine bay?

Oils gonna be changed every 6 months on mine

It down at the front of the engine, look at the top of the block and then down towards the bottom of the car and you should see it sticking out near the right hand side.

It is on the right side under the turbo... pain in the ass to remove.

            Great- thanks
Can you just stick a screwdriver in it, and twist it off- or best use an oil filter wrench
            They need priming?

Did your replacement filter look like you could stick a screwdriver through it while installed?

              Didn't think so.

It looks like a lot of corrugated paper- so yes it does look like you could put something on it and twist it
When I did my last oil filter a few years back the filter had a metal casing on it- this doesn't
If the paper is that soggy then maybe not- that's why I asked Cycles:rolleyes:

There on the righthand side, it's easier to remove the air pipes out the way to get to it., think its a 32mm socket you need to unscrew the filter housing cap, the filter will be clipped to underside of the lid. Oil will piss out everywhere when you lift the filter out, and it goes straight down a whole in gearbox clutch housing, not good for clutches :-/ so best stuff plenty of old rags underneath the filter before you start. Such a sh*t design!

                    It's a 27mm single hex.

I'm going to be pedantic and say it's on the left hand side. It's only on the right when you are standing at the front looking to the back

Really helpful thanks. So when you remove the plastic housing, the paper type filter is exposed?
How much oil is around after draining the sump then? Easiest accessed from the top?
Kwif fit said they can do oil changes- then said if its a specific oil, and filter (Which it will be) then they can do it for the same price, but Customer supplies the parts:mad:

Think Chris it is a paper cartridge, yes then it will have to have a housing, yes. That housing did not come with the filter, yes. So the housing will have to be reused, yes. If you smashed a screwdriver through that housing that you need to reuse what exactly would you do then?

You probably all ready do this but as reminder for everyone else if someone besides Citroen does the job make sure you supply original parts and keep receipts for your warranty

Yes it spills lots of oil since the filter is soaked with it.

Same issue with the VAG 2.0 TDI BKD engine, they seem to position them in the most awkward of places and expect the oil and filter to simply come off without any mess.

It's just a paper filter element, don't bosh a screw driver through anything lol, you'll also get a new O ring for the screw cap of the housing.
Get yourself a new sump plug washer as well
