That feature is there to try and prevent you from being rear-ended when you brake hard in an emergency, why would you want to disable it?
As Arlow said the flash forms part of the EBA system and is a safety device to alert others around you. The system work on pressure which normally occurs from either heavy or late braking. If the hazards are setting off under light braking conditions then there could be a problem which might need a look.
...I should never have doubted the Lord of Bacon!!
I can't see how brake pads can cause this problem! The coefficient of friction remains the same through the life of a pad & any deterioration in the brakes - pads rusted into calipers, sticking pins, etc., would result in increased, not reduced, braking effort.
I don't know what signal the system uses to switch on the hazard warning lights under heavy braking, but if it's occurring more frequently than it should it is most likely a sensor that's failed or needs recalibration.
I must say if you drive your car that hard that your activating this system you need to reflect on your driving. Driving hard can be fun. Driving so hard that any of the safety controls are active means your not in control. You might get round that corner at speed but it's the safety features that get you there not your ability!
