  • Front parking sensors - where do Citroen fit the switch?

    Hello Everyone,

My wife is thinking of ordering a DS3 E-HDI 90 Airdream DStyle with the eMayWay package (sat nav, rear parking sensors, etc) and the Citroen front parking sensors as an accessory.

From what I understand the front parking sensors are an official Citroen accessory which the dealer fits to the car (in the grill and front bumper).

What I don’t know is where they fit the switch for the front sensors? I asked the Citroen sales guy at the Abingdon dealership, but he was unsure as they had never fitted them before. He seemed to think that it went into the center console.

Can anyone confirm this? Does anyone have a photo of the switch fitted in the console? It would be really helpful to know.

    Thanks in advance.

p.s. I've searched the forum before posting this question. I couldn't find anything similar.

I don't have any parking sensors but the only place I can imagine them fitting them is down on the right side of the steering wheel next to the ESP button as on my car it has two empty spaces for more buttons. I'm unsure but this is the only place I can imagine them going.

Hi AJ this is just an idea but it's the only logical place I can imagine them putting it

I'm sure there's at least one member on here with the front parking sensors, if they're still an active member I'm sure they'll be able to answer your question.

Are front parking sensors really necessary? My Racing is the first car I've owned with rear parking sensors, if they'd been an optional extra I wouldn't have bothered. In 23 years of driving I've never reversed into anything

Just a thought but will there be any button at all? I'm sure it should just be built into the system like the rears which you turn off through the car menu

The rears become active when reverse gear is engaged, the fronts probably become active when 1st gear is engaged, it's unlikely that you'll be parking in any other gears.

Hi Sernal, Welcome to the club. When I owned my BMW 7 Series the front sensors became active automatically when reverse was selected. Once you take it out of reverse they stayed on for about 20 seconds. The front sensors are only active when you are parking (parallel parking) to show how close you are to the car in front whilst reversing and pulling forward. They turn off when you are driving around. If you park into a space forward they dont work as they aren't active and you cannot tell how far from the car infront of you you are:cool:.

There is a switch for the front sensors and the sensors themselves are fitted into the main bumper structure.

The switch on mine for the front sensors is an on/off button which is attached to the edge of the tray in front of the gear stick, you press the button as required when you are in a tight spot, the sensors are off by default otherwise they would sound when you drive close to a vehicle in front. Very handy for getting in and up close in my garage.

Thanks for the replies so far.

My wife spoke to the Abingdon dealership again and they implied that the switch for the front parking sensors would be fitted in the center console near the gear stick, but couldn't give any more detail.

So if anyone has an actual photo of how they should be fitted it would be great. Apparently, the dealership has never fitted them before, which is slightly concerning.

As for Arlow's question "do you really need them?". My wife's reply is "Yes, I do!". So anything that can help her is a bonus

BTW: She's placed the order and is now waiting for her new DS3.

                        Regards

                          Hi Ivorex

When you say "attached to the edge of the tray in the front of the gear stick", how does it look? Did they have to drill holes, fit a shroud around the switch?

M wife's spending a lot of money on the car and I'd hate for it to be spoilt by a badly fitted switch. If the dealer could have shown me one fitted, or a picture, then I'd be much happier.

                          Regards
                          Sernal
