  • another DRL question!!!

'cept this one's about aftermarket DRLs. Sorry it's a bit off topic but perhaps you can indulge me

I'm considering fitting some to my Boxer campervan as per these on ebay, and was wondering if there's anyone here who has personal experience of them? I want something that's fairly bright and doesn't look too chavvy

They're a generic Chinese made kit I should guess and are sold for a variety of vehicles

You could just save yourself the cash and have the sidelights switched into DRL mode

Personally I wouldn't be wanting to add something like this to the already fragile wiring system in the Boxer/Relay and you don't need me to tell you that with this kit you will invalidate the warranty (if still under).

Hmmm fair point - it's already got a Sargent computerithingumibob vehicle/leisure wiring system with a fused feed that I can use . Trouble is the van's practically invisible dark grey and the sidelights are shite .........I suppose headlights might be a better bet

Have you thought about replacing the sidelight bulbs with brighter LED ones, might be better than having your headlights on all the time your driving.

I could do a makeover based on this I suppose...............oh, no - those roof and grille lights would bugger up the warranty for sure

well I talked to the vendor and decided to go for it

This is such a simple kit to fit - the control unit requires are only three connections to be made - battery positive, battery negative(earth), and dipped headlight

The unit is switched by the change in apparent battery voltage as the engine runs. It isn't triggered by the 'habitation' system even when that is charging the vehicle battery, which is really clever.

The connection to the dipped headlight wire simply provides a signal to the control unit which responds to the headlights being activated by reducing the brightness of the DRLs by 50%.

Such a simple unit .........which could be used elsewhere I guess.......................

The DRLs are comparable in brightness to ours
