  • Wrong tyres fitted - Advice please

I've just got home from replacing the two fronts on my DS3 and have noticed the garage have fitted the wrong tyre.

They have fitted 225/45/17 rather than 205/45/17 which are still fitted to the rear. Not happy at all as they also tried to overcharge me based on the quotation they had given me over the phone so already argued with them over that. Am thinking this price difference could now be due to the
    incorrect tyre size being fitted.

Can anyone provide me with advice of the implications of this as I don't have time to go back to the garage until next week but will be using the
    car.

    Thanks in advance

Well the first you need to do is get on the phone right away and inform the garage of the issue, the big problem here is going to be wear on the tyres from use but as the mistake was made at their end they should honour their commit to you. The suggestion is that you should drop the car off and receive a courtesy car for the day.

I had 225s on my old car, despite being wider tyres they are much cheaper than the 205s.

I'd get on the phone and say they've not supplied the correct tyre as per your legal contract with them, and demand they come and collect the car and/or fit the correct ones on your drive - I would not drive it with oversized tyres on - one it's illegal if they are not correct (the garage should not have fitted incorrect ones, full stop!), two, your insurance is invalid for the same reason, three, goodness knows what complications it could cause.

I'd have their guts for garters.....some cowboys out there for sure.

      Good luck with it,
      Regards,
      Clive.

MOT failure with wider tyres on the front than at the rear. (ok so an MOT probably not due yet, but I guess still illegal)

            Tyre mixing

Anyone know the rules for tyre mixing?
I know you cant mix crossply and radials on same axle
I have directional Nangkangs NX2s on my aftermarkets
Thing is- buying an extra wheel, if i put on another directional tyre, it will then only fit on one of the 2 hubs one side of the car
So can i just put a non-directional different make on the extra wheel and put it on any corner
            Sorry to hijack thread

You'll be lucky to find cross ply tyres these days.
Directionals need to be the correct orientation, so if you buy a spare wheel and tyre, most people opt for nearside position as more chance of tyre damage from kerbs, drain covers, potholes etc.
Pretty sure someone has the link to the MOT testers manual online, which will answer all your tyre questions.

Thanks Phil- Have been told that may be best to get an asymmetric on the spare wheel

But then I'm thinking get the same NS2 and take the chance
If its wrong, then stick to 50mph and get the damaged one repaired/ replaced

Shall we do the Near side/ Offside thing- always confused me (Easily done)

To quote Phil "most people opt for nearside position as more chance of tyre damage from kerbs, drain covers, potholes etc."

Shall we do the nearside and offside thing
                    Always confused me
Nearside being the side nearest the kerb as you are driving down the road in the UK?

Offside being the drivers side when driving down the road in the UK

                    Forget LHD, and other countries

So the near side isnt the side nearest to the kerb, when sitting in a car? - as you can park with a choice of facing 2 directions when parked by a kerb, thus making both sides near side (If you get me LOL)
