  • Diesel DPF warning light Solution :)

Hey guys! Just writing this so anyone with a diesel car that's suffering with the 'DPF filter may be clogging seek manual for advice' and the service light coming on the dash can stop worrying

Mine has come on several times now in this lovely weather we have acquired lately, and I did take it back to the service department with the service light lit, as soon as the service guy came out to check this the light was, of course!, not there anymore.

He basically told me what I already knew that because of the weather, I needed to do the rejuvenation to clear the filter. In other words as he put it, give it a bloody good booting and it'll clear itself

Obviously in this weather I wouldn't advise booting the car as you may end up in a bush or as part of the scenery !! But it's good advice and as soon as I drive in my manner it clears itself after a few miles and switches the annoyingly bright service light off

Anyway just thought I'd let you know as I myself couldn't find much info on the situation using the magical search bar, and google wasn't much help either, resorted to using a Volkswagen issued solution to forcing a rejuvenation of the system !

Obviously if the problem persists for you then I do advice to take it back haha!

Rule of thumb the best way to reset the DPFS is to wait until the engine is up to temperature, drop into 4th or 3rd gear and drive at about 40-45mph for about 10 minutes. What you're trying to do is get the exhaust up to a critical temperature where the DPFS will start the regeneration process. Normally the light will stay on until you switch the engine off and leave idle for about 10 minutes, this allows the ECU/BSI to reset the values.

        Hope that helps

Bigfeet that's easy said then done I'm afraid I don't know of a road long enough that's safe for me to do 40-45mph on, don't think the police would be happy of someone doing that speed on the motorway either haha. I did try to to the regeneration with that technique but kept running out of road before it cleared so just went and booted it everywhere for a while and it c,eared it
