  • Car Died Tonight

I had another little problem tonight. Made a troubled free 16 mile drive to my Dads house, pulled up outside and turned off ignition. Went to put on hazards.....nothing. The power to the car had totally died.

Phoned the RAC, in the 15 minutes it took them to come (well done guys!) I tried to get it started several ties, nothing. The RAC guy appeared, tried the key and it turned on! He said he expects it " reboot itself" in the time he took to get here. Anyway, he wrote me a report to pass onto my dealer. On driving away again the time on the display was 21 minutes slow, he exact time the car was down.

My radio died on Friday, as mentioned on another thread I pulled the back seat down and there was nothing coming from the speakers although the display was working. Also git an issue with a slight loss of power when in 5th gear just before going into 6th.

It's the issue tonight that's worrying, thankfully it happened in e city but if mynwifevwas alone and in a rural area it would be worse. Any ideas as to te cause of this? Serves me right for buying an ex rental car.

With my ltd knowledge it sounds electrical, I'd get it looked at if I were you, does it have any warranty still ?

You might want to give them a chance before you unleash Mr Angry Explain that you're worried about your wife driving the car and the issues are building up, see what they offer in terms of looking at it and possible courtesy car etc...

I collected the car 5 weeks ago, there was a large rip in the splash guard on the drivers front wheel arch, the front bumper was pulling apart and bumper, bonnet and drivers door was riddled with chips. Never noticed this as the car was dirty when I test drove and it was dark when I picked it up

I have given them abchance to sort it but been given the runaround. Now got the problems listed above too and I am very unhappy. I have spent 25k there in he last 6 months and my dad as bought a new Fiat 500 there too so expect good treatment.

But I will go in go in gently and give them a chance, that is if I actually get to speak to the right person for a change.

I'd insist on speaking to the person, calmly tell them you'll wait until they're free and then sit in the showroom. If he doesn't appear you can then start asking for him in a louder voice, hopefully when there are other customers in as this tends to make people appear quite quickly when faults are aired loudly

Trouble is we have been dealing with 3 different departments. Now I am going to have to add he service department into the mix.

I sent the customer service department a strongly worded email about the condition of the car and we have been given wrong phone numbers, not been given correct contacts, told grudgingly that the numerous chips would only be touched up rather than professionally fixed and then ignored as we have been chasing up the status of the parts order for he repairs.

I pointed out that the car should have been properly checked and fixed before handover. They have chosen to ignore this email.

I may just go in personally on Friday rather than mess about on the phone again.

This sounds like the the problem(recall) that was being caused by the ground wire being to short.

Finally got the car in for a check. The report I got back said they found "the negative battery cable connection wasn't tight enough, if not secure this can cause the eco mode to come on".

I'm not sure how eco mode would cause the car to shut down completely though?

On a side not, I was annoyed at getting the car back absolutely covered in bird poo.

they are trying to feed you a line of shit there all though the loose cable could cause the loss of all electrical power, I guess that could be considered ECO as its not using any power at all

This was also the response to the audio system going silent on me too.....it all sounds highly suspect but neither issue has arisen again so fingers crossed.

With the car not running the sound system will shut itself down after a surprisingly short time.
