  • Humming/grinding noise over 30mph

Good morning. I have a 62 reg VTI Dstyle+ which has done over 13.5k miles already.

I have recently noticed that at any speed above 30mph a sort of humming noise originates around the car. If i turn the steering wheel off centre to the right it stops. The noise continues when steering left. I have also noticed the handling isnt as pinsharp as usual, appearing skittish if that makes sense and fuel economy has taken a nose dive. Does anybody have any ideas?

I went to my local Citroen dealer yesterday to see if someone could accompany me on a short journey to establish the origins of said noise. Was told they were far too busy, nobody is free; even for 2 minutes and i would have to book it in, which due to the timing is now going to be after Easter. All i wanted, now i have to wait a long 4 day bank holiday weekend, was to be reassured that it is safe to continue driving which i explained to the dealer, but hey they were too busy to complete any form of customer service which for a first visit to a Citroen dealer doesnt bode well for possible further visits.

Has anybody any idea what the noise could be please?

Could be a wheel bearing going out or maybe a cv joint.

As Cyclone said that seems the most likely cause, might just be worth checking that all the wheel nuts are done up tight ?

On my first c2 i had a bearing go after 7k.
And on my 4th it has just gone after 76k. Should be a warranty job for you anyway.

Thank you for all of your replies, I am actually sat in Citroen now after getting a phone call this morning saying they could fit me in today.

Will see what the synopsis is, sooner rather than later.

                      Nufc is the winner.

A very slight knock against a kerb pre Christmas is what's responsible.

Funny how 3 months later is the time its decided to rear its ugly head.

Can't get part till Tuesday so having to leave it here at the garage as I do a lot of weekly motorway miles but no courtesy car available. Hire car now on its way to me.

Hire car is a 5 dr Corsa 1.4 SE. No power, very tinny, looks like an old mans car, stinks of sweaty feet but i do like the heated seats very much. 4 days till i get mine back seems like an age away.
