  • instrument plastic looks scratched

hi again just a quick question my car is still only 2 weeks old however i have noticed the instrument dial covers ie speedo etc is pretty naf plastiic...mine in sunlight looks pretty scratched up similar to a car that had a bad time in a car wash.....just wondered has any one else noticed that the plastic dial covers are not that great when the light is on them . If anyone knows of anything to clean or polish them without them messing up even more i would love to know i thought about using a really find rubbing compound to make them nice but i am not sure...

    thanks in advance

Both my DS3 have fine scratches on the instrument panel plastic. Its in my opinion very poor quality and another cost saving done by Citroen. As for how to get them out safely without making things worse I would like to know as well.

Tooth paste removes the dirt from the scratch on plastic and glass it might work as its worked on my iPhone screen when I dropped my keys on the screen

Be patient and take your time

Well had an interesting day today went to 2 different citroen dealers looked a 3 DS3`s and 2 DS5 cars today all had the same kind of markings in the covers for the clocks I took a little maglite with me to check so it would seem it is a common thing due to bad materials.....so i will try fine rubbing and wax on the plastic next week but i gonna mask off everything in the circles with tape first ....
Went to look at the Audi A1 also just for being curious I am so glad didnt buy one of these really tiny inside and didnt feel modern at all so DS3 was still a good choice plus suprisingly the seats were better in the DS3 then the audi and this was an Sline .....however no scratches on the dial cover on the german built car

well i went back to the dealer and spoke to the sales man who sold me the car he agreed they didnt look that great . He said they would take the car in , in a few weeks time and see if they can order new lenses for the guages....i doubt they come seperatly but i just have to wait and see. I asked some friends that work with plastics and gelcoat etc on boats they told me to leave them alone as what ever is attempted they probably gonna get worse or melt if i used a little dremel polisher as i was thinking of doing.....

You could try a little duraglit (available from most hardware shops) we use them to remove scratches from laptop plastics, but beware rub too hard and you will damage the plastic and try a really small area first as some plastics will scratch even with a product like this..... Good luck!

Yeah I've used brasso and soft cloths to clean scratches from plastics before but I don't think I'd risk it on the instrument panel screens

Think will leave mine well alone then- would probly only make mine worse
Suppose they dont use glass, reinforced glass, in case of RTCs

think the main thing is to try and get them to fix it on warranty while its quite new cos if it gets messed up i dont thing the dials willl be cheap ....if they mess it up at the dealers then at least they have to fix it !

I had problems on a different car and providing there is no coating you can use this
Novus 2. Plastic Scratch remover & polish if you google it there are loads of places that sell it even eBay, there is also a number 3 polish for heavier scratches. and a 1 which is a cleaner & polish
                            It does work
