  • Space Saver Fixing

When I bought the new diesel it came with a can of Goo to repair punctures so I got my old space saver swapped over and TBH never really looked at the thing in the old car or how it was fixed :rolleyes:but in the new one even though all the parts to secure it have been used it does not tighten up very well

Just seems to slide about ..................................any ideas guys

As far as I can see all the bits are there including the polystyrene bit ...............You do up the yellow/black nut and it bottoms out but the wheel can still slid about ??

I have tried loads of things yesterday including trying to pack the plastic nut out to try and get it to stop the sliding with the shit roads these days all i get is bump bump from the boot now

Maybe someone could do me a favor and take a few pics of their parts then I could see if they left something in the old car

Mine also does up fairly tight, the wheel doesn't move at all. The polystyrene tool holder then clips over the yellow/black nut flanges and keeps it all steady. Couple of pics attached

It's on p154 of the pdf manual or p178 of the hard copy mate, to be honest I don't think it tells you anything you won't already have tried. If yours still moves I'd ask your dealer to take a look next time your passing....

Just looked at this on mine and it moves around quite a bit also, Think I will put a rubber mat under the tire. That should do the trick.

Well glad its not just me when it was in the other car never really looked but the reason i noticed was when it was swopped to the new one I just checked to see if the dealer had moved everything over ....................that is when I noticed the sloppy fit

The Dynamat has sorted the movement and as said stopped the boomy noise from the wheel well

Right I'm going to double check mine when it stops peeing down with rain, I have no noise from mine and am not aware of sliding but then it's a diesel (quietest one I've owned) so maybe I'm not hearing it.... Update later....

Mines a Weasel too but I do live in Milton Keynes the land of the round a bout and the best pot holes in the land.It was the bumping from the boot that made me look.

The design of the bolt still lets the wheel slide about

Ok, just looked at mine and noted that the plastic bolt and nut aren't great as they don't tighten enough to stop the lateral movement of the wheel and the casing for the jack etc.

Appears to be a design issue as in my previous cars the bolt was steel with a big yellow head that screwed throug the centre of the wheel into a hole in the boot. This allowed you to secure it properly. Anyway despite the less than 100% tightening my wheel appears to almost completely fill the space it sits in, with some effort I can get it to move side to side but not easily and never noticed any noise whilst driving.
