The search didin't find any info on replacing the brake pads (front or rear). Anyone up for a howto? I'm thinking of replacing the original ones to Greenstuff pads and I'd need to know what type of key I need (hex/torx) so that I have the correct tools to do the job. Also any additional info (especially on the rear, eg. do I need to rotate the piston to reset the handbrake, torques etc.) Thanks! (and sorry if there's a howto, I just couldn't find it)

Sorry, but if you need a "how to" for replacing your own brakes you probably shouldn't be doing them at all. Take it to a mechanic, It's your and others lives at stake.Originally posted by cyclone
It is in the handbook. Satisfied.

It's simple to do but if you don't actually know then take it to a garage or see if you know any mechanics. Far too much risk involved if you're hoping to wing it.
If you supply the pads they shouldn't charge you more than £20-£30 max and it'll take them 15 minutes

Little bit harsh that, guys.
How else did we all learn to do stuff, other than by doing it?
1. He's done the right thing by coming on here asking for guidance, rather than blundering into it blind.
2. He's asking the right questions - are there any model-specific issues re the handbrake etc - so it looks like he's done this job before on other cars, & is aware of the principles involved.
3. And anyone who's done this job themselves knows that it's not rocket science, provided you know what you're doing (see 1 above).
I'm not doubting for a moment that DIY work on safety-related items like brakes shouldn't be attempted if you don't know what you're doing - but that's why he's started the thread.

I don't think anybody's been overly harsh more stating a point that needs to be re-iterated.
If you're changing a component in your car that affects the safety of others and you're not 100% about it, don't do it yourself.
Take it to a garage and if you're really keen on learning, simply ask the tech working if you can shadow him just so you can learn for your own benefit.
If it's a decent enough garage you'll probably have the ability to ask all these questions at the time too.cyclone> Fish is the man

I agree with Fish, I'm all for encouraging owners to do their own DIY where possible but brakes are very important to the safe running of the car.
If the OP wants to do this I'd suggest getting a Haynes Manual for the DS3 (v slow internet at work today so couldn't search if there is one yet) or one of the Citroen Workshop manuals available on eBay and following that step by stepThe additional cost of the manual, in whatever form will still be cheaper than dealer brake servicing.

Stand by the statement that he should take it to a mechanic. Never said he should not watch, ask questions, and learn so he could do it himself next time. Safety is to important to be left to "I hope that is right"Originally posted by cyclone

Have a look at these and then decide whether or not you want to do the job, piece of advice would be if you are not sure that you have fitted correctly then ask a local garage to do a brake test for you.

Re-read what me and Cyclone said - neither of us critized him in any way, shape or form. Incase you didn't know Brakes are an unbelievably essential safety feature on cars - not something you want to mess about with if you don't know how to.
How would it make you feel knowing that I serviced your airplane the day before you're due to fly given my lack of training and inexperience ?...

I have done the work several times on other cars. So not a newbie. The tool question was because I don't want to get the car up, wheels off and then try to see what size/type the bolts are and then wheels on and go and buy the tools and then up again... And yes, I will take it to the garage if I'm unsure in any way. I see what you all are saying, safety first.
Bigfeet, thanks! Those were just what I was looking for. Do you happen to have a pdf for front brakes too?
