  • Couple of problems...

Hi all. Recently my ds3 has been making a sort of screeching/scraping noise when doing hill starts. I took it in to arnold clark today to get it checked over. They couldn't produce the noise on a test drive so I'm going to have to take a mechanic out at some point.
However they did a vehicle health check and my rear brakes are "dragging" and this isn't covered under warranty.
So a couple of questions really, has anyone else had similar noises when doing hill starts?
+ I'm not familiar with brakes dragging so if anyone could enlighten me it would be much appreciated.

    Thanks, Andrew

Could be worn discs/pads. What's the age & mileage?

When does this sound apears? When stopping on a slope or while doing the hill starts?
If it's during hill starts It also could be the clutch!!

I was thinking it could be the clutch, its when pulling away from going slowly/stationary while going uphill.
The cars only just been in for its first service a few weeks ago with just under 20,000 miles on the clock

If the rear brakes are dragging it's possible that the pads aren't moving freely, in which case all they need is cleaning & lubricating where necessary. The pads may be tight in the caliper, or the caliper pins may be partially seized. It's also possible that the handbrake mechanism may be seized, but that tends to happen at much higher mileages.

I'll have to quiz the mechanic when i get round to taking it for a drive.
Thanks for the info, I'll keep you updated
