  • 1.6 DSport lumpy start when cold

Hi. Is it normal for the 1.6 DSport THP engine to be very lumpy when started from cold? It usually settles down after 5-10 seconds but there is a strong smell of petrol out of the exhaust accompanying it.

Don't sound right that doesn't. Get it into the stealers to sort it out, might just be something simple like spark plugs

I think I'll ask them to have a look and see. Only problem being that when I arrive there the car will be running normally so I will definitely have to leave it with them all day.

        Is it a 150 Sneeks or a 155?
Shouldn't be lumpy to start, although it benefits from a gentle wake up for the first 5 mins or so IMO
IE Don't bring the turbo in within 15 seconds. In fact I let mine run at idle for a minute or so
Yours doesn't sound right- as Jamie said- dealers for a check

Hi Chris it is a 155. It's only lumpy for 5-10 seconds then calms down, similar to what I'd expect from a auto choke in older cars but its the smell of petrol that made me think its maybe not running correctly.

No oil visible within the engine bay, all looking clean.

High pressure fuel pump failing ..............engine map learns to run on low pressure then after correction runs fine .

After a while it will fail and give you a warning ....................this happened to mine

My car will be getting looked at tomorrow by my Citroen dealer while there to get a new gear stick gaitor. Not sure they'll find anything or not as it'll be running warm/hot by then.

If I were that worried Id probably take it there the day before and leave it overnight- then ask them to come out when I started it up

The service desk manager thinks the fuel smell from the exhaust isn't out of the ordinary if it only occurs when cold starting the car. Waiting to see if the diagnostics show any issue or not.

The car has been checked over including the high pressure fuel pump and I'm told all reports have come back as ok. I've been advised that a initial lumpy running engine and smell of fuel is not unusual due to the hydraulic tappets.
