  • Another THP Bug.

Hey Guys and Gals been reading through lots of the THP posts (which there are many so i may have missed one,) Its hard to find one that's a definite match to mine.

Well there 2 things really, ( this was also mentioned in the lumpy start post) Mostly When i start the engine from cold it gives off this really rough running noise and runs a bit, high around 1000/1200 and a slight wiff of petrol is in the air too. Someone else has mentioned but hasn't gotten to the bottom of yet. When this happens i just let the engine warm up in its own time and then drive like a saint. And once the engines warm it stops making it hard to show to the dealer. :P

The second is that when I'm giving it some bean such as overtaking the car briefly loses power for less than a second as if you turn the cruise control off and on really quickly or like getting a bit of wheel spin off a drain cover. Now as of late its been getting more frequent (some time 3 times in a row in about 10 seconds,) even with the supreme fuel in her.. Now i have been to the dealer but they plugged her in and there wasn't any "fault codes" on there so they took her for a spin and obviously she behaved herself in company so they couldn't pinpoint any problems.
Just wandered if anyone had the same problems and managed to resolve them? Any inputs would be appreciated even suggesting a Diesel as i do about 22k a year so probably would work out better for me. :P

Sorry to hear of your issues..... I've only ever owned a DS3 DSport+ 110 eHDI diesel and that didn't have any of these issues, I also managed mpg of around 52-58mpg around town and 60s on motorways. I do a bit less than you in annual mileage but combined with the free road tax I can't find anything bad to say about the DS3 diesels.

If you went for the 90/95 eHDI's you'd get even better mpg.

The rough running from cold starts may be a faulty sensor - temperature or lambda - which is causing the engine to run rough. If a sensor is giving a false reading it may not set a fault code, as the reading may well be within the normal range of values expected by the ECU.

Dealer diagnostic equipment may not be able to detect the fault - a Bosch specialist should.

Sounds like the standard issue with the THP, timing chain.

Get it into the dealers for them to tighten/replace and start looking to get rid as soon as possible

Mine was doing that and they fixed it by replacing the Dual mass flywheel..

However my car was still rattling and juddering so I sent them a rejection notice last week and playing the waiting game...

Regarding the OP I believe you have a tensioner issue

Sorry for the late reply just got home.. No it isn't quite as extreme as that its more of a momentary skip. The revs hold but the car stops pulling, only for an instant. Thanks though.

Cheers Dangerousfish I think your right. But hope your not! At least its managed 3 years! I'll see what Citroen say on Friday as the cars in then anyway.

Sounds like you've got the THP stutter. Does it hesitate under full acceleration in 5th/6th, at 60+?

Could be timing chain, fuel pump, carbonisation of the valves, or all 3.

Mine did that too, but it eventually turned out to a broken piston. Same symptoms, many options...

I can't believe how many issues have been reported with this engine on this forum alone (ignoring Mini forums) and there still doesn't appear to be any fixes to resolve them once and for all

I got rid of mine at 36K got completely pissed off with whats going to go next

I traded it in for a 110 Diesel and other than the initial grunt off the line the car does not feel that much slower .Great consumption over a month I use half the money on fuel zero tax

The pull out of corners is miles better than the THP ............................get it gone you will not be disappointed

My Dealer was very helpful I bought it from them and they did all the warranty work on it so knew the car well .............they offered me a good trade in and 2 free services on my new diesel.

Cuk after i moaned big time gave me another free service and £200 for accessories on the new one so that was a sweetener

The Derv tbh is a better all round drive and not that much slower overall ...........................get it remapped and it would really fly more grunt out of corners
