Spark Plug Socket Size/Type/Whatever! For DS3 THP

Hi All,

I wonder if you can help me?

I'm currently trying to change my spark plugs to some new Iridium NGK plugs.

However, i have tried every spark plug socket under the sun from all my friends, a local garage (not a citroen one) and i cannot for the life of me get one to fit.

My mate said he read a 14mm Double Hex Deep Socket is the one. Will this fit? Im a little anxious to order one if im not 100% sure as i have had problems with every other one!

Have you tried taking the car to Halfrauds and asking them to confirm which socket you need ? Most times a member of staff will accompany you outside to the car to try a selection until you find the right one. I have glo plugs so can't advise - sorry !

Yeah buddy, the Halfords near me isn't fantastic, and the guys just stared blankly at me... :O

I think most can be like that The other approach is to tell someone that you want to try the selection of sockets to see which fits, less pressure for them then as they just stand and watch

Consider those NGK plugs Connor- I have a set and never fitted them as Czar on here reckons they are not as good as OEM
Have a look on search button- but if you think you get a difference, post up

My car is miss firing like a _ _ _ _ _. I put my foot flat as it just pops and doesn't go anywhere.

Jamie recommended them to go with the remap.

Ah Right- be good to see what state your plugs are in then

Connor yes 14 mm double hex. I just use a normal deep socket then a piece of rubber hose to lift it out and put back down in.

Do not know if 1/2 drive would fit down the hole.

I hate to put a dampener on your plans Connor but if you're misfiring randomly that isn't a good thing and I doubt it'll be overcome with different spark plugs unless the ones you currently have are completely gone.

You might want to look at stripping some of the mods back for now and asking Citroen to look at it.

Thanks for your input mate. I'm going to try and change the spark plugs first to see if this solves the problem.

14mm is not the correct size for the THP plugs, it's 8mm.

Laser Tools make one - an 8mm thin wall 12 point deep socket - part number 4376.

As for missfiring, these plugs have quite a history of the tips wearing away, which increases the gap and leads to just this sort of thing. Refer to this eTuners article for more info: eTuners link. I don't think more expensive plugs will fix it, but new OEM ones might, if they are worn.
