  • 110 HDI engine fault (again :-()

I'm sorry to report that I had to limp my 2010 DS3 110HDI (18000 miles) to the garage again on saturday morning. We set off to the Peak District with the bikes on the back, only for the ASR/ESP light to come on along with the engine management one. Limped to the nearest Citroen garage, which was thankfully only 10 minutes away. The bikes came in handy as we were able to cycle home.

The engine was running roughly, with power coming and going. The garage tell me this morning that they are going to perform a compression test today. I've no idea where that fits it to a diagnosis. Hopefully it's nothing fatal, though this will have been the second engine fault in 9 months. Another faulty injector? A shame really as the HDIs should be solid and I've been clocking up a steady supply of motorway miles in the last year.

Oh not good, I had that general fault once with my old eHDI and it was diagnosed as a sticky valve on the turbo, apparently Citroen are aware of it and so a new valve and turbo pipe were ordered under warranty to fix it.

Just heard back from the garage... Another failed injector. That's two in the last nine months. Waiting for Citroen to approve the new one.

        Unlucky bud

I'd be querying with them why this has failed again. Surely if the same component keeps failing over and over there must be something else in causing it to fail?

That's exactly what I'll ask about when I speak to them tomorrow. Is it the same injector as last time? How are the other 3? What's causing it? I don't want an expensive repair on the other two when it's out of warranty after November.

Just a quick update... We're still waiting for the new injector to arrive at the garage. Citroen Customer Service sorted a rental car for me last Thursday, but that's going back on Friday. I'm hoping the garage will have good news for me today. So far, so helpful, but the fact remains that my own car is still off the road.

Citroen Technical still chasing parts, so it looks like I may have another weekend with the hire-car (a 5 door Vauxhall Corsa).

The small plus side is that it sounds like these parts are hard to find so maybe, I did say maybe, you've just been unlucky as there doesn't appear to be a huge stock of them in the UK. Any word on what might be causing these failures ?

Do you only average 6,000 miles a year ? Wow I've done almost 4k in 3m

Okay, collected the car yesterday and so far everything has been fine. I even got the service done, so I hope I'm now good for another 12 months. Just a quick visit in November for the MOT.

The fault was a resistance issue with the injector on cylinder 1 - an electrical issue with the injector itself from what I can find out. The previous injector failure was on cylinder 4, but I don't know what that issue was specifically, the notes are at another garage. I'm presuming it was something similar. I'm told any future issue with the other two would be looked at as 'good will' case, but hopefully I won't ever have to find out.

I can't fault Bristol Street Motors in Burton for their service :-) They were only held up by the parts supply chain and kept me informed as we all waited. Citroen Customer Care made sure I had transport, so other than the initial inconvenience of having another breakdown, I can't complain.
