  • 'restriction' in 1st and 2nd ??

I know this sounds stupid- it's probably I just need to get used
to the car more (6 days / 400 miles so far).
But, it almost seems like there is some sort of slight restriction
    in 1st and 2nd gears??
Once I'm in 3rd (...or 4,5,6) it pulls like a train and you can feel the
turbo pulling from about 2000/2500 strongly.
But in 1&2 it seems to pull less and come in later??
Almost like the retarding electronics on a lot of modern bikes
(The Bandit and Hayabusa have the same sort of thing to make
it easier/safer to avoid wheelies/wheel spin?)
OR, is it that the turbo pulls better under a load- ie higher gears?
I even tried pressing the ESP button in case that made a difference
    ....it didn't.

    Hi,

Perhaps you're just hitting the max power from first / second gear. Floor it, relax and just change up when it's slowing up in first.... I came from a diesel and it took me some getting used to a petrol engine again . Love the performance of the 1.6 THP engine though...

Just drive and enjoy my friend

    Regards,
    Clive.

Could be the 'diesel' thing....i just swapped from a Nissan Note 1.5dci.
It wasn't fast, but, it would pull smoothly from very low revs (like a DIESEL...DERRRR )
      Perhaps I've become a bit aclimatised (?) to diesel-drive?

Nice to hear someone say something nice about a petrol turbo DS3- Nice one Clive
Bet yours goes faster as the air can pass over a really clean car, more easily (LOL-sicophantic or what)

FatS, its just your reaching top of the revs range IMO

I would imagine 1st gear may have a rev limit set lower to stop you trashing drive shafts etc never really liked spanking cars in 1st myself

            No, sorry, explaining it wrong.
            I'm talking UP to ~3000/4000 !
It's like the turbo isn't come in
            as strong initially.
            Like 'something' is keeping the
            boost low in 1 & 2.
            ???

As said can understand it in 1st to protect the drive train but not in second how many miles has the car done ?

                It feels flatter in 1&2 then proper in 3, 4, 5, 6
                (VERY happy with 3, 4, 5 AND 6 !!)

ONLY 400 miles so far, so MAYBE bit tight
                still ???

Hmm I not sure I would be spanking a car with only 400 miles on the clock

A lot of modern cars limit power in 1st and 2nd gear for the reasons Monkeynuts said.

This is the norm in modern Turbo diesels due to the wallop of torque at low revs. Without the limit people would be wheel spinning, shredding tyres, burning clutches out etc. Some car manufacturers even state this in their blurb for the cars.

Can you blah a ride in another DS3 (local forum member maybe) and see if it feels the same?

I think with only 400 miles on the clock the comparisons will be vastly different and TBH I have driven a few THP's and the power delivery does vary quite a bit not sure why ?

Mine seems to be happy to get spanked from 1st gear. I have 24k in the clock though.

Try turning off the ESP before you set off, you should notice a fairly significant difference if you're planting your foot.

Agree here..mine shreads the tread and pops happily on limiter in 1st with ESP deactivated...does it in 2nd as well but the missus is usually shouting quite loudly at me by then lol

As i said NOT high revs, but where turbo comes in,
I did try disabling ESP button but it's not that
                              (It's dry and I'm talking LOW revs...2000-4000,
                              I haven't even taken it over ~4000 yet.....giving
it just a few days/few miles to settle in).
